Just to pick some out of thin air that you may like:

Mobb Deep
Jay Z (I'm surprised this wasn't on your list)
Big Pun
Tha Dogg Pound
Ice T (pre Home Invasion)
Pete Rock & CL Smooth
A Tribe Called Quest (a MUST!)
De La Soul
Mos Def/Kweli/Blackstar
Common
The Roots
Outkast
Little Brother
Public Enemy (the first three albums are almost second to none)

Like I said just a random list you may like.

I've heard a bit, and was considering picking up a joint, any good album
suggestions?

I've heard a couple of tracks from Big Pun and thought they were pretty
good.

Yeah I forgot I used to own DoggFood, are there any other joints better/as
good as that?

Cormega. I'll YSI some stuff if you like. He's been my favourite
emcee for some time now, you might want to start with 'The True
Meaning' (2002) or 'Legal Hustle' (2004) as good introductions to his
work, but 'The Realness' (2001) and 'The Testament' (recorded mid-90s,
released 2005) are also a must. I'd also suggest Big L.

'Hell on Earth' and 'The Infamous'.

As far as Jay-Z goes, I'd recommend 'Reasonable Doubt', 'The Blueprint'
and 'The Black Album'.

im having a lot of difficulty how you got from kevs original list to
this lot. i mean, theyre all great, but they dont bear much relation to
fiddy and co, do they? youve kind of gone from a unhc of artists who on
the main are street/gun type rappers over hardish beats to a bunch of
positive type guys who mainly rhyme over jazzy beats.

I'm not sure about most of them but I've heard a Roots album and liked it,
but like I said, I'm not sure what the rest are like.

You'd probably still like them, even though they are a bit different to
what you've already heard. Little Brother are sleep-inducing, though.

Only one you need and that's 'The Infamous' one of the best albums ever imo
and after that it just goes gradually downhill...

He's wack... Anyone who can't breathe can't rap...

Include Home Invasion, it's not that bad...

>> Pete Rock & CL Smooth
>> A Tribe Called Quest (a MUST!)

WORD... Low End Theory... A MUST... More than any other Tribe album...

>> De La Soul
>> Mos Def/Kweli/Blackstar

>> Little Brother

Ignore this one :-) ... Shouldn't be on the list of people you need to
check... Their debut isn't bad but it's not that good... Sumran is on some
stalker ish with their producer so he's biased :-p

>> Public Enemy (the first three albums are almost second to none)

First 4 I'd say...

i wasnt really trying to say that you wouldnt like them, its just that
in terms of sound (mainly) and subject matter (for the most part),
theyre quite a long way from the majority of your list.

anyway, give em a go (probably starting with ATCQ), by all means,
theyre all good. just maybe not what youre used to. plus if you like
the beats for "the world is yours" (pete rock) and "one love" (q tp
from ATCQ) on illmatic then you'll have a rough idea of what they sound
like.

you might want to try some of these as well (some of which may be
stating the blindinlgy obvious, i dont know who you know of and who you
dont..):

smif n wessun "dah shinin"

kool g rap & dj polo "live and let die"

any of the recent roc output - freeway, memphis bleek, beanie siegel

jadakiss/styles p/the LOX

the other g unit related albums - games documentary seems to be the
concensus' choice

east flatbush project

Well he had gangstarr on there, and nearly everybody I know who feels
gangstar enjoyes most of thpose groups up there.

Weak link I know but it gets a bit of variety in his rotation.

I really think the Testamont is one of the best albums of this year (in
fact I forgot to put it in my lists of lists). It's amazing it was
recorded in like 96.

Sounds like you'll listen to any old crap. ; )

I recommend: Del/Deltron, Necro, and, erm, Sage Francis's "Fairweather
Patriot" album, or whatever it's called.

And THE GOATS!
