2Pac Started the "Domino Effect" that Collapsed Death Row

Big Syke confirmed last evening on "BET Tonight" that 2Pac was leaving
Death Row because he finally realized that "someone" at the company
was stealing his money.

Following 2Pac's lead, both Nate Dogg and Snoop starting looking into
their own finances and (like 2Pac) discovered that Death Row had also
cheated them out of millions. According to Syke, that's why Nate
Dogg and Snoop left DR. I'm sure that's also why Kurupt left.

Although Syke felt it was wrong for them to publicly discuss the money
situation, I think they did EXACTLY what they should have done...let
the public know their beloved record company had fucked them over.
"Loyalty" is a two-way street!

Some at DR tried to blame the missing millions on a crooked
accountant, but everyone knows it was Suge Knight. Suge was
diverting money from Death Row and Club 662 to fund the MOB Piru
Bloods and his other street enterprises. All the while, Suge gave
expensive material gifts (diamond Rolex's and shit) to Snoop, Nate and
2Pac to make them think they were rich. They loved Death Row, so
(they thought) they had no reason to distrust Suge....until Tupac
caught-on.

Within weeks, Tupac was murdered. However, Afeni's continuous law
suits on behalf of Tupac forced Death Row to reveal it's financial
records. This led to a federal Grand Jury criminal investigation into
Suge Knight, Club 662 and Death Row ... the beginning of THE END of
Death Row Records.

Suge ended-up in jail, the best artists abandoned ship, the internal
operations of Death Row were exposed to the public, and the
infrastructure of the company collapsed.

What are your thoughts?

Wow!
This is an example of conspiracy theories at their finest.

I wish i would have seen the "BET Tonight" in question,
but since i didn't i will just have to take your word for it. Are you
implying that Suge was responsible for Tupac's death?
(I am not saying that the idea is so far off base, I just wanna know)

Basically i think it's a shame everything had to go down like that (if
this is what actually happened). I guess what goes around comes around

The whole downfall of Death Row is a disgrace to Hip Hop and economic
independence. Yes, Suge wasn't straight at all with his business
practices but as Syke said, the label did a lot of Black families good
financially.

The Death Row label could have been a powerhouse, redirecting millions
of dollars that leave the Black community because many rec companies
are owned by white corporate execs. Why didn't some people with some
money try to rescue the label? This could have been the beginning of
Hip Hop being controlled by people who have a real interest in the art
benefitting the Black community on a social, financial and mental
level.

Instead we have a ton of talented artists who have to beg these white
corporate execs for a contract. Then, they got to sell their soul to
put food in their mouths.

If anyone thinks that the downfall of Death Row is a coincidence, ask
the thousands of Black and Latino applicants of business loans why they
have been turned down whereas some Koreans who have just became
citizens are able to open minimarts in the Ghetto to sell malt liquor
and cigarettes to people who are looking to escape the mental
depression of poverty.

Hip Hop is at a crossroads right now. And if those involved don't
realize that keeping dollars in the community is more important than
kissing the white mainstream's ass so you can get a grammy...listen up
Will Smith, Puff Daddy, LL Cool J...then Hip Hop will go the way of
Jazz and Blues. In the hands of the wrong people.

If this continues, Hip Hop won't be the only thing that dies.

No, it's a disgrace to Death Row. "Hip-hop"? Have you seen any breakers in

Serious allegations point to Death Row being funded by drug money. Not the kind
of "economic independence" we need. The feds can't tear down anything built on
drug money.

Why was Death Row chosen for investigation out of all the black owned labels
out there?

Why hasn't LaFace been investigated?

Why hasn't Bad Boy been investigated?

So-So Def? Def Jam?

They weren't investigated because they weren't funded with drug money.

As far as Koreans opening liquor stores go, it's my understanding that most
Koreans who own stores have pooled their money together collectively and
financed their own enterprises. That is what I have heard. If ten middle class
black people decided they wanted to open a liquor store in the ghetto, they
could pool their money together and contribute to our downfall, too. There are
black-owned liquor stores, as well, I would add.

Puff Daddy IS keeping the money in the community. He owns his own label, in
case you didn't know. As well as his masters. LL is on Def Jam which is part
black owned (Russell and Lyor Cohen split it 25/25 and Polygram owns 50%, if I
remember right).

By the way, jazz and blues are still around. Catch a concert if you can. They
need the support....

Have you heard of the Asian mafia? What about all of the Chinese and Korean
"slaves" who are brought to this country to work in stores, restaurants, "gentleman
clubs" etc. While some do pool thier resources there are a lot who are shady just
like Black Americans. The difference is the Asian economy is respected while the
African economy is exploited and laughed at. All of Africa's major resources have
been drained or are mostly controlled by foreign countries. Asia's technology
sector is a big reason why they are internationally respected.

As someone else has mentioned drug money has been the foundation for
thousands of businesses and still is today. The present state of the
community doesn't warrant people to be particular where business
capital is coming from. Check out KRS-ONE's "Drug Dealer" off of his
Sex and Violence albumn for a more detailed description.

I haven't seen any breakers or graf logos in any groups promotions for
a long time now. That is beyond the point, I'm speaking about economic
independence and if someone can create a multimillion dollar business
which keeps dollars Black and doesn't have graf logos then I'm all for
it.

>There are plenty of other black owned labels out there. The lesson to be
>learned is "Don't fuck over your artists and don't start your label with >drug

You don't understand what a REAL Black owned label is. Maybe a better
term is Independent label. I'm not talking about so dumb half owned
bullshit like Puff Daddy has. He might have his name on the label but
that's it, he isn't in total control, ultimately if the stockowners of
the larger record company he is apart of don't think he's kissing
enough white ass then they'll dump his ass like Interscope did with
2Pac. Death Row might still have had this problem too, but was in the
best position to be totally Black controlled.

>Why hasn't LaFace been investigated?
>
>Why hasn't Bad Boy been investigated?
>
>So-So Def? Def Jam?

All of these labels are making Whites rich while the small number of
Blacks that are involved with them rich at the same time.

For the money Russel may get, Columbia stockowners get even more.

I guarantee that if any of these "labels" said they were going to try
and make their listeners aware of attacks on Affirmative Action and ask
them to enlist to vote to fight the battle, they would come under
scrutiny real fast.

This was what was interesting about Death Row, before Pac's death both
him Suge and Snoop held a press conference encouraging Californians to
vote down Pete wilson's attempt to destroy Affirmative Action.

Do you think Puff Daddy would do anything like that, or any other
rapper with big time support from White "rap fans"? Hell no.

I was referring to discrimination when it comes to business loan
application.
The EEOC has about a 20,000 case backload, some of these cases refer to
this.

The mere fact that Koreans are getting more of a business oppurtunity
than Blacks when a fair majority of their stores (Koreans) contribute
to violence and drunkeness speaks for itself.

>By the way, jazz and blues are still around. Catch a concert if you can. >They

Wake up. Yeah there still around but who owns all of the rights.
White record corporations. The money generated by the people who
created Blues and Jazz coming back to support their future generations
will never be there.

Yeah, Gotti's sitting in jail right now with most of the Gambino familiy

Not broke. They declared bankruptcy. They are both FAR from broke. They
declared bankruptcy to protect their assets from creditors. A clever accountant
can easily make someone appear to be "bankrupt" while they still have a
ridiculous amount of assets. Trump declared bankruptcy near his height...he's
still a fucking millionaire.

I would NEVER put Biz Markie in the same financial category as TLC or Toni

Hurray for the crack dealers. I don't give a damn. That doesn't make it right
and no one should go this route. I'm sorry. Practically speaking, the feds can
shut down *anything* built on drug money AND arrest everyone employed at drug
funded businesses in SOME cases, under RICO statutes. It's not worth it,
especially since blacks are disproportionately investigated. Why would you do
dirt when your skin color already puts you under a microscope? Stupidity...

Huh? There are hundreds of thousands of minority business people who start
businesses WITHOUT drug money. Suge already had the publishing money from
Vanilla Ice. If he decided that wasn't enough and took drug money to blow up
his label, he's an idiot. Jermaine Dupri, Babyface, and Puffy built their
labels from the ground up. Why couldn't Suge? Dumb ass...

Breakers --> KRS' videos, Wyclef, probably even fucking Mariah Carey by
now...but I was really being sarcastic there
Graf---> Artifacts (duh), Common (2nd album)...again, I was joking, but
basically my point is, how does Death Row support hip-hop culture? That was my
main point. They are a RAP label. I don't think Suge gives a fuck about DJing,
graf, or breaking.

>That is beyond the point, I'm speaking about economicindependence and if

If they can do that without threatening their artists and competitors with
violence, yeah. If not, they're just Black Mafia and I say fuck them. We don't
need that. Would you want a job where the retirement plan was an ass-whipping?
;-) Seriously, the way Suge did business was bad for hip-hop, IMO...you don't
go around kicking the hell out of people you disagree with. I can't endorse
that, no matter how many jobs you create. What if he whooped your mama's ass?
Would you be like, "Well, Suge creates a lot of jobs, so I'm gonna let that

50% of Death Row was owned by Interscope for most of its operation. Interscope

Or like Interscope did with Death Row.

Kissing white ass? You really don't understand the music business, do you? If
Suge makes his partners $50 million, they don't care if he's fucking their
wife.

>For the money Russel may get, Columbia stockowners get even more.

Def Jam is with Polygram now. And I guarantee you, the Polygram film division
makes so much more money than Def Jam it's not even worth discussing. Def Jam
is like a small scribble on Polygram's overall bottom line.

No. When Cannibus said "Fuck my label, I appear courtesy of myself", do you
think anyone at Universal gave a shit? No. How many Polygram stockholders do
you think own a copy of Method Man's last CD? The numbers in the single digits,
believe me.

million dollars, you would take it too.

Money Talks. Thats the case with everything. Money makes this world go round.
The Government really doesnt have anything to do with the fact that Koreans
own mad shit. That's to be placed on the hands of the people who SELL the
businesses to Koreans. The SBA hasnt given out business loans for years. If a
Korean Goes to a bank to take out a loan to start a business, and the bank
doesnt give it to them solely because of the fact that their Korean, isnt that
wrong? Isnt that the reason for Affirmative action in the first place? I'd
assume youd agree, since you were just preaching about how Pac and Snoop were
doing the honorable deed of making a stand FOR affirmative action.
You say one thing, and in the next sentence, completely refute your own
argument. Affirmative action isn't only for blacks. Its for all minorities.
I think your confused. You cant place all the blame for everything on white
corporate execs. This is their job. Thier in the business of making money.
You would do all the same shit they're doing if it meant putting food in your
families mouth. If your that upset about whites being in charge of record
labels, why dont you do something about it? Start your own record label and,
if you make it, we'll all see how long you can make it before you "jump under
the umbrella" of those <evil> White corporate execs. Not long is my bet.
Think before you speak.

learned is "Don't fuck over your artists and don't start your label with drug
money". If you do, the house of cards crumbles eventually.

actually  i've read my share of shameful artists contracts and heard enough artists accounts of record label robbery. to know screwing your artist is a suscessful business practice. but what you don't do is boast about it in the New York Times Magazine's sunday edition and furthermore you don't boast how big of a thug you are in NYTM. reason, though district US attorneys don't read source magazine, they do read NYTM. the domino effect began when suge knight did that lengthy article in NYTM.

and his muzik

It is said that the Death Row started was also corrupt. Remember
Vanilla Ice? Well, I guess that some <unnamed person> threatened him
when he first came out with his album back in the day. This person made
Vanilla Ice sign some paper that gave them some of the profits from his
album so that they wouldn't kill him. This is also thought to be Suge
Knight. They made a lot of money off Vanilla ice and started Death Row
with the money. Vanilla Ice is even scared of coming back into
California. He won't. It's all true
