@STRATEGY_510 ("Ben Grimm")

1) I rarely, if ever, "Tweet" anything
2) When I do, it is almost always boring

Thanks for the add! I mostly only talk about boxing, bus since Chuck
D started following me for no reason I may have to try so say some
profound things about hip-hop.

I mostly follow a handful of Oakland Raiders, a shitload of boxers and
boxing pundits, a dash of a few rappers and a smattering of actual
friends (like you sweet people).

For the confusion on my STRATEGY Facebook account...sorry about that,
I created it and added everyone and never check it, because I'm too
lazy to try and manage that and my "real person" Facebook account.
Some of you have me on that one, if anyone else wants to add the real
me, email me and I'll tell you me real name. The only reason I
remember about the STRATEGY one at all is because I get these weird
Happy Birthday emails from everyone on Halloween, which is NOT MY
BIRTHDAY.

Anyway, I'm saying this now because, just doubt I'll be checking back
here anymore, I didn't look for months and nothing happened here at
all other than maybe a Xenos playlist

Still haven't figured out how that shit works and what
its purpose is.

Basically, you pick who you want to see posts from. Like your personally
compiled news ticker - to which you can respond, if you feel like it.

To make it all a bit more demanding and stuffy, tweets are limited to
basic SMS size, cos it's meant to be possible to be used via sms as well
(as if!). You best use it in your browser, or through something a bit
more nifty like TweetDeck. On a phone it only really makes sense on a
smartphone with a data plan.

If you find interesting posters to "follow", your "timeline", i.e.
collection of posts in order of appearance, gives you news, insight,
pointers to other great finds on the net like articles, videos or
whatnot, great photos, snarky comments on the world at large and comical
relief. If not, it won't.

Usually, all posts (or "tweets") are publicly visible to anyone who
wants to see them. (But they can be protected.)
The basic pattern is that you can follow someone and that person needn't
necessarily follow you. But if you do get followed back, you can also
use a direct message system just between the two of you. A lot of
artists on tour seem to use Twitter to keep in touch via direct message
(much like regular text message), or publicly, thus allowing their fans
to share in their latest achievements and tour news, in their lives or
what they want you to think their lives are like.

My mixture is between media outlets for the very latest news,
politicians, comics, hip-hop artists, and people I actually or kind of know.

Just in case you were wondering... ;)

Aha. When I look at a Twitter page I only see the
person's tweets - which is not the same as what
you see when you're logged in to your personal
account?

Anyway, the idea doesn't quite grab me. I guess it
would make sense to me if it's used by a circle of
friends or as a working/business tool.

Apart from that it looks like another medium for the
typical ego-driven, empty drivel the internet is already
full of.

Correct. Then you can peep the feed from all the people you wanna hear from.

Journalists use the hell out of it, like real figureheads of news, if
that encourages you. It's also great to keep up with new releases, a lot
of previews and free material (see new Brother Ali EP) is posted by the
artists themselves, tour announcements, etc. I dare claim it would make
sense for you, too.

No doubt. As with every medium, it depends on what you do with it.

I don't know. I'm not a news junkie. I mean I appreciate
information, but to think I have to follow someone's every
fart just to get the bits that are relevant to me? I'd rather
the media tell me what's important and what's not. :)

Twitter is like celebrity obsession expanded to Joe Shmoe.
YouTube gave everybody their own tv channel, Twitter
gives everybody their public diary. (Yeah I know I sound
like someone who's formed his opinion based on second
hand information.)

It can also be usefu, though. Most of the time you find out about
news before its reported on the other major media outlets. Sometimes,
I use it to find out about something local that the news doesn't
cover. For example, tweets like "switching problem in one of the
tunnels, train service to and from penn station temporarily
suspended," or "2 train bypassing times square due to police activity"
is extremely helpful to a commuter.
