The Tubes are the musical guests in Episode 8 of the season 1 DVDs of "SCTV Network 90". They appear in a skit called "The Fishing Musician", do a song about sushi and "Talk to You Later". Vince doesn't speak any lines, but he is on-camera plenty.
Elsewhere in the episode, John Candy shows up as a hippie with a walkman and a weird accent. "Hey, are you guys 'up'? I sure am. I'm listening to The Quicksilver Messenger Service right now!"

How/where do I get a copy of SCTV on DVD? I was quite young when it aired on TV but do remember some skits. I remember seeing the Andy Kaufman episode and wondering WTF was going on?!?!?!?!
This would make a GREAT Christmas or Birthday Present for my older brother who remembers the series quite well.

SCTV was some of the best television comedy ever produced. Proof is the long line of top notch comics who went on to bigger if not better things: Andrea Martin (simply brilliant), John Candy, Eugene Levy, Rick Moranis, Dave Thomas and, of course, Martin Short. Funny, funny stuff.

My favorite was always the "Halfwits" bit. I hurt myself laughing the first time I saw it
I'm on the fence about SCTV........They were very hit or miss. I remember episodes when the glue/mexican skunk weed was hittin!...and the show was hysterical......other times. it was VERY unfunny. I chose to watch the show on glue/mexican skunk weed from there on out. Either way, Don Kirshners Rock Concert was always on after SCTV.....and Mott The Hoople cured it ALL! you feel that?

I had many favorites but probably the single fav is Andrea Martin playing a on-the-spot reporter with a jungle scene in the background and the associate noises and she's talking it up about something going on in the African jungle when a 9-10 year old boy rides across the set in the background. Still cracks me up thinking about it.

SCTV was among the best stuff, but the DVD set is only what was produced for NBC, unfortunately *not* the several (?) great years of 30-minute episodes produced for Canadian TV. Some complicated licensing and legal issues have prevented even this much being issued until now on DVD...maybe others can explain better, but I think this is what the situation is...... -- Peace, ~ Steve "Thinkin a lot about less and less, and forgetting the love we bring..."

The very next episode of Fishin' Musician was supposed to have Rush as their guest. Unfortunately, the show got canceled before the new season started. Count Floyd did the intro to "The Weapon" for Rush live.
One of my favorite things on the show was when the Canadian Gov't got on their case because there wasn't enough "distinctly Canadian" content. They responded with Great White North.

I'm glad someone else noticed that! I kept meaning to post about Vince & The Tubes on SCTV, but some how kept forgetting. The SCTV set has made my year!

Supposedly, those will be coming eventually. The second cycle of the first NBC season is next up, in late September. I've read they plan to release everything. Of course, a lot of sketches from the syndicated seasons were re-used for the 90 minute NBC shows.
