DEDHAM —
A Dedham man was among the 32 arrested in a weeklong, statewide sweep
of child pornography suspects, according to a Massachusetts State
Police statement released Tuesday, April 10.
Raymond O’Hara, 56, was charged with possession of child pornography
and dissemination of child pornography.
Arrested at his home on Beech Street on Tuesday, April 3, and
arraigned the same day at the Dedham District Court, O’Hara’s bail was
set at $2,500 and he was ordered to have no contact with children or
use of computers, according to Norfolk County District Attorney Press
Officer David Traub.
His bail was later reduced to $500 at Dedham Superior Court with the
condition he check in daily by phone with the probation department,
according to Traub.
O’Hara has a court date of May 3 for a probable cause hearing.
Colonel Marian McGovern, superintendent of the state police, was among
the officials that announced the arrests at State Police General
Headquarters on Tuesday.
“Our work is not done,” she said, according to the release. “It will
never be done as long as even one child suffers the horrible trauma of
sexual exploitation. But let this work you see before you serve as a
stern message to those who prey on these children and support the evil
trade that exploits them – we will never stop coming after you, day
after day after day.”
Federal and local police departments participated in the surveillance
and arrests, according to the release.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said improvements to
ways law enforcement uses technology were important in performing
these arrests, according to the statement.
“The collaboration during this operation shows the joint commitment
all of these agencies have to protecting children from exploitation
and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to
aggressively enforce our child pornography laws,” she said.
Other arrests were made in Amesbury, Arlington, Belchertown, Brockton,
East Boston, Granby, Haverhill, Hyde Park, Lowell, Marblehead,
Middleboro, Milford, Natick, New Bedford, North Attleboro, Oak Bluffs,
Oxford, Revere, Scituate, Seekonk, Somerset, South Harwich,
Stockbridge, Taunton and Worcester. Charges ranged from possession and
dissemination of child pornography to rape of a child, according to
the statement.
Investigative leads were coordinated by the Massachusetts Internet
Crimes Against Children Task Force and were executed by state police
detectives.
