Neal Young & Crazy Horse rocked ACL Music Festival last night. I
could only watch a few songs because I had to catch a ride, but it
looked like he was on top of his game. The "Rust Never Sleeps" Neal
showed up - rather than the doddering post-stroke "Prairie Wind"
Neal. He played a few old songs like "Powderfinger", and some I
didn't recognize, but none of the "Coming Around the Mountain" crap,
unless he did those after I left.

So if you are questioning whether to see him on his current tour, if
you are a rocker-Neal fan, definitely go.

Steve Earle also played a great set. I was able to get a lot closer
to the stage for that.

Never heard of him.

Definitely a walk-out-early concert if there ever was one...

LOL, sorry about the typo. It was a long day. It turned into
Woodstock with driving rain when showers came through earlier in the
day.

All I'm saying, if you are a fan, don't let the recent album keep you
away.

Down By the River? Hmmm... I already downloaded a few recent shows that are awesome. Can anyone attest that the DbtR is a guitar soaked feedback fest of epic proportions? I think I already know the answer....

Yes. And this is a very high quality download (the official show
production).

If I had gone to see only Neil, I would have stayed for the whole
show. But as it was, it was something like the 10th band I watched on
Saturday. Steve Earle was on just before Neil, on another stage. I
couldn't miss Steve, and got in the front row just in front of the
stage (mainly because people were heading over to Neil. I figured my
chance of getting close to the stage for Neil was next to nil, so I
stuck with Steve. He put on a great set, BTW, I don't regret that at
all.

Jack White was playing on another stage at the same time as Neil, and
I had to stop and at least listen to a song before heading over Neil.
By the time I made it to Neil, I could get I could barely see him, and
the sound back there wasn't the best, either. But I could tell he was
rocking out.

The place was a mud pit from the rains earlier in the day, and I
didn't bring a chair, and I was cold and tired, so I elected to beat
the crowd to the buses. Thankfully there is a high quality video to
watch. I cut out early on the Red Hot Chili Peppers the next night,
too.

Tying a couple threads together here, one of the attributes that the GD, NY and Drive-By Truckers have in common that I love is the artful use of feedback. If you can't break out some epic feedback every now and then, why even bother?

I gotta agree. I'm having epic frustration right now because my '67
Guild Starfire bass now has these really cool old Alembic pickups (ca.
1973) that sound great, but before the bass can feedback, they start
shrieking with a soul killing squeal. I think there's some loose
windings in there. it's driving me crazy. I love me some feedback.

Can this be fixed? Take up a collection on Kickstarter, but you have to
promise your audience something in return...not HS, you dirty bird, but
rather an mp3 or CD of the music you make after repairing the pickups...

Ah, if we only had an upstairs. My whole life, I dreamed of living in a
house with an upstairs, but these damn Boulder ranch houses are so lame.

play between sets at the current Kimock Colorado tour, starting...tonight!

ON TOUR NOW

We are having an absolute blast on tour playing such fine, fine music- a
blessing for all. The band headlined three excellent festivals on this tour
including Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (with Keller Williams and Kyle
Hollingsworth), Joshua Tree Roots Festival and Bend Fall Festival. It was
wonderful to be back playing in the MidWest, Pac NW, Vancouver and
California!

Today, we are at a home away from home for Kimock music...COLORADO! There
is something for all, so come on out folks and shake it with funk legend
Bernie Worrell and our montrous rhythm section, featuring Andy Hess and
Wally Ingram..

The tour kicks off TONIGHT in Carbondale at PAC3. We were on-air live today
for a live acoustic set and chat at WDNK 88.1FM in Carbondale.

Tomorrow we head to Fort Collins to play the Aggie Theatre, and this
weekend the band plays the only two-night run of the tour in Denver, CO at
the Oriental Theater, with special guests.
Event passes and TICKETS still available.

You never know. Sometimes, what's old is new again. RMGD Holiday CD?
Follow-up with Easter DVD release?

There's something happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear.

Well, the first one didn't exactly fly off the shelves. Some people even
thought their CD players were broken. It's called Fat Pig.

The second didn't even make it past a limited cassette release. It was a
duet with Stacey Starkweather called Bak-o-Bass.

Three strikes and I'm out?

The live shows, which featured various other people, Dave Watts of the
Motet, Erik Deutsch from Charlie Hunter's band, etc., were pretty well
received. I probably have enough tracks for a live release.

Taper: David Sell(Falconidave)
Location: Section G2
Sound Quality: Excellent

Setlist:

01. Love and Only Love
02. Powderfinger
03. Born in Ontario
04. Walk Like a Giant
05. The Needle and the Damage Done
06. Twisted Road
07. Singer Without a Song
08. Ramada Inn
09. Cinnamon Girl
10. Fuckin' Up
11. Psychedelic Pill
12. Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)
13. ~encore applause~
14. Mr. Soul

Not exactly a lot of surprises in the setlist, but who cares. Great fucking show, enjoyed the new songs a lot (Neil introduced Psychedelic Pill as "a new song, just like all the others - same key, same melody, same stupid guitar solo")... And, we got a pretty good 45 minutes set out of Los Lobos to open.
