SAN GERONIMO KICKS OFF SUMMER OF LOVE'S 40TH WITH STAR-STUDDED ART &
MUSIC
Wavy Gravy, Rock and Art luminaries join June 2nd show to support Camp
Winnarainbow
San Geronimo - The San Geronimo Valley Community Center, long known as
a
great outdoor rock venue as well as a full-service community center,
will
kick off the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love on June 2nd. The
star-studded Wavy Gravy-hosted celebration of 60's art and music will
raise
funds for Camp Winnarainbow.
The event, The Wavy Gravy Summer of Love Revival will begin at 4pm
with a
performance by Moonalice featuring their all-star line-up of G.E.
Smith
(Saturday Night Live, Bob Dylan), Barry Sless (Phil Lesh and Friends),
Pete
Sears (Jefferson Starship), Roger and Ann McNamee (Flying Other
Brothers)
and Jimmy Sanchez (Bonnie Raitt, Dr. John). The Revival All-Stars
follow
featuring: Greg Anton (Zero) Barry Melton (Country Joe and the Fish),
Tom
Finch (Big Brother and the Holding Company), Banana (The Youngbloods),
and
Martin Fierro (The Jerry Garcia Band, Zero). High School Band Euphoria
will
also perform a short set.
Attendees will take in the tunes in a relaxed sun-filled all-ages
environment on the Community Center's grass courtyard. Wavy Gravy, who
originally came to national fame at Woodstock, will MC and perform.
The Wavy Gravy Summer of Love Revival celebrates the opening of a show
of
current collage works by Wavy Gravy in the West Room Gallery as well
as a
group show in the Valley Room Gallery. The group show includes work by
The
Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia (1942-1995), iconic 60's cartoonists Dave
Sheridan (1943-1982) and Gilbert Shelton, album cover artist Stanley
Mouse,
as well as work from MOT and DAVA. The classic 60's styled concert
poster
was designed by MOT and will be available for purchase at the event.
Affordable and delicious soft drinks, snacks and dinner will be
available
for purchase at the event. Admission is $10-25 sliding scale; Partial
Proceeds Benefit Camp Winnarainbow. All ages welcome; FYI some art
will

Revival All-Star Performer and Solo Show Artist:
*Wavy Gravy: Collage artist and Woodstock legend Wavy Gravy is known
as 'The
Clown Prince of the Counter Culture' (High Times) and has performed
with
many of the musical giants of our time including Thelonious Monk,
Peter,
Paul & Mary, Tiny Tim and many others. He is cofounder of Seva
foundation
and Camp Winnarainbow, the performing arts camp he has codirected for
over
30 years. Wavy Gravy began his collage work by decorating friends'
cars,
refrigerators and the like. Since then his work has been seen around
the
world at London's October Gallery, Alex Grey's Microcosm Gallery in
New
York, on television in Japan.
Wavy Gravy's solo show will be hung in the West Room Gallery. The show
is
curated by VinGloArts, the publisher and art dealer representing work
by
Wavy Gravy and Jerry Garcia.

*Jerry Garcia: The beloved guitarist and lead vocalist for The
Grateful
Dead, Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) was also a talented artist who studied
at the
San Francisco Art Institute in the late 50's and had his first exhibit
at
the legendary Weir Gallery. Since then Garcia's work has been
exhibited in
New York's Ambassador Gallery, Chicago's Deson Saunders Gallery,
D.C.'s
Govinda Gallery, Atlanta's Faye Gold Gallery, Alex Grey's Microcosm
Gallery
in New York, as well as exhibiting in Tokyo and Kyoto.
*Dave Sheridan: The iconic underground cartoonist Dave Sheridan
(1943-1982)
is best known for his characters Dealer McDope and Mother's Oats, his
collaboration with Gilbert Shelton on the Fabulous Furry Freak
Brothers and
his political cartoons for the Berkeley Barb.
*Stanley Mouse: Best known for album artwork and other images
associated
with The Grateful Dead, Mouse's extensive career as one of the most
sought
after rock artists also includes early posters for Big Brother and the
Holding Company, album art for Journey and has included shows at the
Smithsonian Institute and MOMA.
*MOT: Influenced by Salvador Dali, Rembrandt and other diverse
sources,
neo-surrealist sensation MOT is celebrated for his completely unique
portraits of 60's stars, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Mona Lisa and
more.
*DAVA: Multimedia artist DAVA, widely known for her 1400 shows around
the
world as Tickles the Clown (creator of the ABC's of self esteem
broadcast),
her work spans jazz and rock music, beat poetry (compared to Allen
Ginsberg), collage art and painting. She is also the subject of many
paintings including a portrait by Stanley Mouse that will be in the
show.
Past concerts at the San Geronimo Valley Community Center have
featured
Zero, Tea Leaf Green, Flying Other Brothers, Vinyl, Pele Juju, Utah
Phillips, Girlyman and many others.
The San Geronimo Valley Community Center is located at 6350 Sir
Francis
Drake Boulevard in San Geronimo (Marin). The Community Center is 20
minutes
from San Rafael, 1 hour from San Francisco or Berkeley, and 40 minutes
from
Petaluma: Take Rt. 101 to the San Anselmo exit and go west on Sir
Francis
Drake. From the west take Sir Francis Drake from Olema. The Community
Center
is 20 minutes from Pt. Reyes Station.

I've been having trouble posting, too. (I click "send" but the message
doesn't go through - I don't get the "your message has been successful

days, and, to a lesser extent, for the past several weeks. I'm a
Macster, so I don't use Vista. It's either google or Comcast or Cheny/
Rove/Gonzalez, or all of the above...
