Hey Now,
You might want to try Stone Mountain. Most everyone goes there.
it's $5 per night. The only problem is that it gets realy crowded, Real
quick. A few years back we tried to get into another place
and they wouldn't take Deadhead's, SM is only a 20 minutes from the Venue

My roommate came across someone selling Dead tapes in front of the Warfield
last week. He didn't ask the price, but since the seller did not "look
like" a deadhead (whatever that means), he suspected that the tapes had been
stolen. The seller insisted that the tapes were his and that he was a
deadhead. So, my roommate asked what his favorite Dead song was. The
seller stammered, "uh...ummm.....oh, yeah, that Survive thing, you know..."
I suppose meaning Touch of Gray. My roommate and I had a good laugh over
that. I said, "Can you imagine the setlists on his J-cards?" , and we
started making up more wrong song titles:
I Will Survive
Roll Away the Dew
If I Had My Way
Teenage Wasteland
Can you think of any more good ones?

MARYSA!!!
Right on!
I figured this one out about three years ago while watching THE GREAT
MUPPET CAPER...
I don't know if Jim Henson was into teh Dead, but he was definitely of a
hippie mentality (his cmpany is run very much in a family style, like
some other groups we may know... heh heh) and the musicians are all
cariactures of musicians.
For example, Floyd, the Bass player, is pink (get it, Pink Floyd?), and
is dressed like he belongs on the Sargeant Pepper's cover. His somewhat
stoned sounding voice only adds to the nice combo of the Floyd/Beatles
amalgam.
Next is Janice. No doubt she is a Muppet janice joplin, only without the
excesses.
Animal is of course Keith Moon. Who else had such ridiculous behavior
and such destructive tendencies.
Dr. Teeth himself looks suspiciously akin to John Mayall, the british
blues pianist.
Just my $.02. I am a devoted Muppet lover, and am hoping to work for Jim Henson Productions this
summer.

This has been discussed ad nauseum but here's the gist:
Dan was booted for drug abuse, obstinate and inflexible behavior with
respect to sound decisions and generally being a butthead. Phil's tune
pretty much addresses this issue directly. Here is the song:
IF THE SHOE FITS
by Phil Lesh and Andrew Charles
Will your high hopes get you there
Goal so far and yet so near
You can't ignore the writing on the wall
Every time you rise you fall
End nowhere in sight at all
Why should you pick it up and try again
Chorus:
Give it up, 'cause you can't win
Let it go while you still can
Gave it all you had, now you're feelin' bad
So you're gone, ready to roam
You come on so strong with that same sad song
Wherever you go
Run along, take your ball and go home
Promised yet another chance
Forbidden just a single glance
So much rides on what you say and do
Discarded truths and famous myths
Tales that life deceives you with
Certain things you always thought you knew
Chorus
Helpful hands that pull you down
Smaller minds turn you around
Friends in need are never really true
Why should you put trust in this
Bridge over the dark abyss
You never learned you can't make all the rules
Chorus

***SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY CONCERT ***
The VALENTINES, a band featuring Bob Weir and Henry Kaiser on guitars,
Vince Welnick on keyboards, Bobby Vega on bass, and Prairie Prince on drums,
will play Valentine's Day, February 14th, at the Fillmore, opening for the
Starship.
IMPORTANT: This concert has NOT yet been officially announced, but it WILL
HAPPEN. Tickets should go on sale through BASS and the Fillmore box office
soon - probably THIS WEEKEND.
(I called the Fillmore today, and the box office person was still pleading
no knowledge of the gig. If ten million NetHeads call the box office, she
will probably get mighty annoyed, so DO NOT CALL THE FILLMORE YET - wait a
couple of days.)
This will be a VERY TASTY event. There will be a full LIGHT SHOW, trippy
decor, and Henry Kaiser told me that the theme of the evening will be
"psychedelic dance-party time." Kaiser also told me to be prepared for some
SUPER-AMAZING ULTRA-UNEXPECTED BUSTOUTS at this gig (songs, NOT people.
We're talking old songs. Good ol' Grateful Dead-type songs. :-))
(What a way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the great 2/13 & 2/14/70
run!)
See you on Valentine's Day!
(I do NOT have ANY more info about this gig, other than what I've posted, so
please DO NOT EMAIL ME with questions. Just keep reading this newsgroup,
OK? :-))
***
And another scoop: Henry Kaiser and Tom Constanten (T.C.) are playing a
BENEFIT at the Great American Music Hall in SF **this Monday, the 23rd** - a
premiere of their new jazz band, the Siamese Stepbrothers. Expect a cover
of Miles Davis' Agharta, and other cool stuff. Another great Bay Area band,
James T. Kirk, is opening.

Stone mountain is the place to be. It's about a thrity minute ride to the

cops driving around, the scene is real cool if you are low key and the wrist

It is also very beautiful. Stone mountain refers to a granite hill opposite

Here's an article from today's People in the News. Reprinted without
permission from Mercury News Wire Services:
"Jerry Garcia has designed a one-bedroom suite for L.A.'s 140-room
Beverly Prescott Hotel. Room 807 boasts jacquard-covered lampshades
with fish designs, desk chairs covered in the Grateful Dead musician's
exclusive "Lady With Argyle Socks" print, plus a signed, framed display
of his necktie."
Sounds like a step up from the Mars...

Subject: Denver Hotel saga

Well I've settled my claim with the Ramada in Denver (for those of you who
don't know or remember, I protested my hotel bill at the Ramada I stayed at
for the Denver shows late Nov early Dec because they treated us like dog poop
and kept us waiting outside the hotel after the show while they carefully
checked each returning guest). After some letters, many phone calls,
and some lying on the part of the Denver hotel manager I agreed to the terms
whereby we would not be charged for the first night we stayed there. This did
not make me totally happy since I had hoped they would waive the whole bill,
but after talking to the assistant to the president of the hotel it was very
apparent that this was the best I was going to do without a lot more time
and effort on my part, and even at that I'm not sure I would have gotten
what I wanted. My argument was that most of the local hotels were booked for
the shows so it would have been difficult to go elsewhere after the first
night, but this fell on deaf ears. I'm not really satisified, but ultimately
this compromise ('cause thats what it is) is going to save me much time.
If I had had some legal advice, I probably would've gone to the mat
on this one, but even in this country, just because you're right, doesn't mean
you'll win!

Aw now, the Eugene run is easily one of our favorites and we sure as heck
make sure of our stay being low impact. Living down the street from the
UM football stadium, I sure know the meaning of crowds. We get over 102K fans
every football Saturday in the Fall, not just for one weekend. Having seen the
Ducks' stadium, I am sure Eugene's post-game crowds are nothing to shrug off
either. Is it fair to say that the drain on social services you speak of
is temporal, like the football crowd, or does the population of Eugene increase
after every time tour stops by? I'm still trying to get a feel for the scope
of this drain. Fair enough, there will be users or water fountains and rest
room facilities, much like any other stadium event. Does the drain include
those thousands of folks or merely the few who run for soup kitchens and
shelters? It is odd reading the gripes in light of what we thought was a
very postive experience lsat year, well organized parking and camping about
the stadium, a crowd well into tour as opposed to the year prior, and so on,
including what was purported to be fewer fans having entanglements with the
law. Fess up, is this drain substantially credited to grateful dead shows
or just enough to push Eugene from hosting *any* performance of that
magnitude (save for football of course)?
