All politicians do it, yeah, including Obama too. But McCain has been
flip-flopping so hard over the past few years that one gets whiplash
when trying to keep up with it. I can't name another current-day

"Czechoslovakia" I find quite unsettling. As well as his penchant for

either. However, I knew all of this was going to go down before it did,
so my disappointment is somewhat tempered.
As far as McCain, look at the tightrope he has to walk. On one hand he
wants a piece of the Republican base and on the other hand he wants to
appeal to moderate or independent voters. I'd argue that that's a more
difficult balancing act than for a liberal who has to move to the
center. The Republicans, by my estimation, had zero chance of winning
the presidency this year if not for McCain's nomination. But he's not
going to get it done by merely being his maverick self.

You really need to work on your comprehension skills. There's no double
standard being applied. I EXPECT hypocrisy on core issues from both
camps. And it's not for me to give a pass or not give a pass. My mind
is already firmly made up. More important to me is that my candidate
hits the right buttons and that the whiny liberal base not screw things
up again with their reactionary politics.

fumbling over the issue of medical insurance coverage when it comes to
birth control vs. Viagra. That's not a winning issue. However, if you

this race, rather than some perceived hypocrisy, then you're on the
right track IMO.

The 'only hypocrisy as of late' Obama has done that I'm none-too-happy
about is his FISA reversal - granted that's a big one though.

I didn't think he'd go back on his pledge to support a filibuster on
FISA telecom immunity - IMO that one cuts too far into the bone of the
Constitution and the rule of law. That aside, he's done nothing that

I agree, but I nonetheless don't see why McCain should get a pass for
being such a flip-flopper now. McCain, in my estimation, has bee and
is far more the one in this campaign who'll do or say whatever he
needs to to get elected - Obama has been a straight-arrow in
comparison.

McCain didn't become a 'maverick' until about a decade ago - before
that he was for many years reliably in the GOP-fold. Then, for a
about a half-dozen years, he became more independent. And now he's
solidly back in the GOP-fold - last year he supported the GOP/Bush
positions 95% of the time. And this year -- at least to the extent
that he's voted, he now has the worst attendance record in the Senate
-- it's 100%.

My good buddy who's political acumen I respect immensely (perhaps more
than anyone else I know) saw McCain speak in a small room -- and
according to him McCain looks even older, more frail, and more
befuddled in that environment. That deeply disturbed him, which in
turn disturbs me on a pretty deep level as well.

Not surprisingly, trying to frame the Dem nominee as an untrustworthy
'flip-flopper' is once again a major part of the GOP playbook. That's
only going to stick against Obama if the Dems don't respond by hitting
back hard against McCain's record - which again makes Obama look like
a straight arrow in comparison.

Or get caught up in the trivialities. FYI, Obama isn't going to win
this election on the issue of Iraq or McCain's perceived hypocrisy.
Whatever bullshit line McCain has spouted about Iraq, he did argue for
the surge going way back, and like it or not, the media is spinning 'the
surge' as working. Post-convention, both candidates will support some
sort of withdrawal.
That said, Obama is going to win this election on the economy. I only
hope Obama gets to this quick, right after this silly European/Middle
East tour of his, which obviously was a necessity that addresses
questions of whether he fits the 'presidential' mold. But after the
convention, he needs to win over Middle America, and he will do so by
appealing to them on economic grounds.

Are you sure you saw this footage? Because there is no reporter asking
any question until 2:25 seconds into the 3 minute video. It's pretty
much all straight McCain soundbites. It's a series of very short video
clips of McCain saying contradictory and/or stupid things, some in
debates, some on Sunday morning type talk programs. But for the most
part, whatever questions prompted his remarks are not shown. Maybe I'm
confused, but exactly what "stupid question" did you catch on this
video?

There may be posters here who have never told others that something in
their posts was out of line, but not many. I've seen you point out
behavior to folks that you didn't approve of, on multiple occasions.
On many of those occasions, I agreed with your assessment. Think of
all the advice you've offered to Carrie, for instance. It was good
advice, ignored advice, but it was clearly telling her how she should
act. Almost everyone does it on occasion.
