I have met Laurie Anderson and she is a genuinely nice person whose stage persona is not how she is in real life. Having never met Kate I wonder how much of what we see of her in interviews and hear on record reflects what she's like when you stop by the house to drop off a pizza. Frank Zappa used to say that the Frank Zappa he portrayed to the public was NOT the Frank Zappa his family knew, nor should it be. Makes me wonder if Camille Paglia can really make a comparison like that. If we're seeing STAGE KATE, then she can only compare that to stage Laurie, and both would be false representations of the real people behind them. Comparable, I guess, but why bother?
