Went and saw two shows by Morris Day and the Time at Ballys Casino in New
Orleans on November 23, 2001 in New Orleans. We left our house in Florida at
3:45 p.m. Plenty of time to get there for the 8:30p.m. show or so we thought.
Well bad directions had us ending up there at 8:15 p.m.In the rush, I left all
the items I hoped to get signed in the car. Rushing through the casino and
hoped on the escalator to take us down to the level where the club was we
passed jellybean and Monte as they were going up. Got to the club section and
went in and it was packed. It was general addmission, but there were seats so
no standing in front of the stage for this show for us unfortunatily. Worked
our way to the very back of the club past all the chairs and stood
I notice that Freeze is back there too so I start talking to him. Told him that
was probably the furthest back I've ever been at a time show and we have some
small talk for about ten minutes , he said that he would see me after the show
and then he works his way back front. Five minutes later the show starts with
the familar clock bonging followed by the DAT intro of the Times biggest hits.
The band then comes on stage to the new Guitar intro. If you have not seen them
recently, this alone is worth the prince of admission and finally Morris and
jerome hit the stage
here's the setlist
1. Guitar Intro
2. Wild and Loose
3. The Stick
4. Fishnet
5. The Oak Tree
6. Get it Up
7. Cool
8. 777-9311
9. Gigolos get lonely too
10. If the kid can't make you come
11. Ice cream castles
12. The Bird
encore
13. Jungle Love
A fantasic show, being way in the back took away from it some, but musically as
usual they were on. Sat down for a little while since we had been standing the
whole time and let the club clear out. Dave Winfield had been at the show.
Decided to go up stairs to the buffet and get something to eat since we had 45
minutes till the next show. Got to the escalator and saw that they had the top
of it roped off with people already lined up for the next show and decided to
stay down stairs so we would make sure we got a good seat for the next show. At
this point, the club was pretty much cleared out except for the time and a few
hanger ons so we figured we would see if we could try to talk to the fellas
Went to the area where the Time were hanging out. There was a small room where
most of the fellas were hanging out where they had food and drink and some of
them were hanging just outside of it. We walked over to it, Tori saw us and
shouted "Rhastus" and gave me a hug. We talked to him for quite a while and
when any of the other fellas would come by he would ask them if they knew me.
Talked to Chance for the first time, talked to Freeze some more. Jellybean and
Monte came out and shock my hand. they remembered me from the net(and the
escalator LOL) Had a nice coversation with Monte. Great guy. Hung out with Tori
some more and he snagged us a few beers(now I very rarely drink, but if the
gutarist from the Time offers what are you gonna do LOL) Jerome finally came by
and was like "You guys again" Gave My wife and I a hug and her a kiss. It was
getting close to the next show at this point so we decided to go back into the
club to snag those good seats before they let the other people in. Morris came
out at this point and got some pictures made and a lady gave him a bag of
beads(this was New Orleans) He asked what he was suppose to do with them and my
wife told him he had to show something and he made that classic Morris Day
face. Too Funny I wish I had a picture of that
Got seats front row and center. Just in time to cause they started letting
people in about 5 minutes later. The show started about 30 minutes later. They
played the exact same setlist as the first show, but sitting in the first row
made it much more enjoyable. Some highlights. Freeze and Tori playing two feet
away from us during 777-9311 also Morris and jerome dancing that close to us
during the same song. Jerome coming up to me during Fishnet and telling me to
"get your ass us" when i was sitting down. Eye contact with Jerome, Tori and
Freeze during the night and how they would posse when my wife would take
pictures. Superfly, that dude was hilarious. Some dude got on stage during If
the kid can't make you come and Morris ragged him pretty good. Right before
the end of the show Jerome came by hugged me and my wife and said "I love you
guys, you come all the time" and Morris told him "Jerome what did I tell you
about all that soft shit" Too fucking funny. My wife and I BOTH got on stage to
do the Bird. We have got on stage seperately before, but not at the same time,
she got back off before the Chil sause part in hopes of getting my
picture(haven't got the film back yet so i don't know if it came out). Like I
said the first show was good, but the second was so much better since we
participated more. Fantastic. After the show we talked to Jerome and Monte some
more and then we hit the road. I can't believe that after never seeing the Time
in the 80's that after these two shows I have now seen them fifteen times. Two
shows by my favorite band and I get to hang out with them between shows.
Unbelievable
Rhastus- HA! New Power Soul buries TRC. There is no comparison.
