That's interesting, but back on topic...

> This is a new thing at The Vault ... on Wednesdays? Interesting.

Yes, it went pretty well, considering their choice to go right up against
The Loft on Wednesdays.

Big differences are Tripp books 3-4 performers each week, and pays them, and
there isn't an open mic, but at the end of the night Tripp takes the stage
and does the ''jamming'' thing.

We all know how the Vault is quick to change formats, but it's a good thing
for now, and he's actively curious about booking performers that have come
along in the several years since he's been gone, for example, I gave him
Brian Mallard's CD to see if he can get a spot in the coming month, Riley
Yielding is on for next week, and Dockery-Conley's booked again next month.

So, pass the word, y'all... it ain't bad to get paid to perform on a
Wednesday in Shadowville... keywords are acoustic, songwriter, get paid,
talk to Tripp Wrigley, not the Vault, since he's calling all the shots on
this one.

To The Magic Store by Will Dockery

'' I don't think love dies--it just gets buried under bad experience
and incommunicability, or people go mad, suffer money woes, get caught
up in a war. But if you look to your dreams, you'll find the original
love tears, throbs and grief remain completely intact. The emotions
remain in the body, the mind and the heart, and they often come out in
dreams.'' -Allen Ginsberg

//Tripp Wrigley's songwriter night at The Vault//

Back at the turn of the century, Tripp Wrigley's songwriter's series
was one of the big nights of the week, in the early days of Uptown
Tap. Now, years later, TW's back, now at the Vault in downtown
Shadowville, for the first of his new songwriter/front porch picking
nights... every Wednesday.

In the first couple of weeks Tripp has hosted sets by Charles Tignor,
Dan Davidson, Rick Edwards, Brian Fowler, Riley Yielding, Dean from
Skydog, Kerry Lowe, Dockery-Conley Show and an all-star cast of guest
performers. Faces in the audience by the bar never fail to take me
back to simpler times, when the future was unwritten for downtown
Shadowville and anything seemed possible there. Tripp says he'll be
bringing me and Henry Conley back onstage for another set this month,
so come see us and check out the new song-poems we've concocted,
including this one with Gene-0 Woolfolk-

Cheshire Bridge Road

Early Sunday morning walking with you
on Cheshire Bridge Road
passing sound of radio.

Gee, I think it'd be nice to have
a couple of cups of coffee with you
and watch morning come.

Walking on Cheshire Bridge Road
early Sunday morning with you
barefoot in the dew.
Sunlight burns away until the fog is gone
and brings in the dawn.

Every time I hear your voice it reminds me of music.
Every time I see your face across that bar.

Early Sunday morning walking with you
down Cheshire Bridge Road
passing sound of radio.
Still would like to have

I can "take it" just fine, Duckery. You're the one that's quacking like an
imbecile every time someone mentions how ugly you are or how poorly dressed
you appear or how stupid you look while on stage.

I post a link so anyone interested can check the performance out for
themselves... such as the ''Wobble'' video, below.

So thanks for your critique of my appearance, which gives me the
opportunity to provide the link, for further comment.

You mean Anti Loude, formerly of the poetry groups from 4-6 years

Duckery, you've been told this before, and I know you're a brain-damaged
moron, so I'll remind you again.

That image is a screen capture taken of me as I appeared as a background
extra in an HBO made-for-television movie in 2004. It is in no way
indicative of how I appear now in 2008 (though you've shown many tendencies
to hug the past, so I'm not surprised you keep this stupid shit up), it is
something so positive for me and my career plans that you simply can NOT
insult me with it (especially given the fact that you look like a homeless
person on cocaine, you hypocritical half-wit), and, finally, you are simply
wasting your time, you quacking, drooling droll imbecile.

Wednesdays 8:00pm
October 29th - December 17th, 2008

48 Singers/Songwriters-Duos-Groups compete for great prizes!
Audience tickets qualify to win new bike from Ride-On-Bikes!

Competition Dates – Six Wednesdays
(10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10)
* 11/26 … Ten Songs from the Edge of Georgia CD Showcase*

Rivertown Quarterly Showdown - Wednesday December 17th

8:00pm music start. Weekly, eight (8) contestants perform a three (3)
"original" song mini-set (maximum fifteen minutes). The song and the
performance will be judged. Songwriters are encouraged to solicit the best
singers and musicians to perform their songs. The selected finalists - two
or three - will be called back to perform another song (or two). A winner
will be announced and asked to perform a final song. The winner and one
finalist will advance to the Quarterly Rivertown Showdown.
Songwriters/Performers should be prepared to play at least six (6) songs (3
during the fifteen minute min-set, 1-2 during call-backs, and then 1 as the
winner). One panel of judges will adjudicate every competition round with
special guest judges joining for the December 17th Quarterly Showdown.
Although there is a competition element to this songwriter series, it's
really about an effort to continue building the Music-in-Columbus (MIC)
community. The goal is to provide a venue and format that fosters
professional development.

Weekly Cash Prize: $50.00 (winner)
Winner and one finalist advance to quarterly showdown
Rivertown Showdown Quarterly Prizes:
- $500.00 Cash
- 8 Hours Recording Block (Loft Recording Studio - $500 value)
- New Guitar (Gorilla Guitar - $500 value)
- Top audience favorites earn eligibility to open Loft Live national act
shows

Regardless of the number of performers, prizes will be awarded to only one
designee named at sign-up. Assuming there are openings, songwriters who did
not advance to the quarterly showdown may re-enter the competition as long
as their adjudicated score is in the top five, i.e. third, fourth or fifth –
bottom three scorers will need to wait to enter subsequent quarterly
competitions.

Audience Ticket / Performance Fee: $3.00
(Songwriters / Performing Artists will only pay one $3.00 fee to enter the
six week series.)

Each week the audience will vote for their favorite artist and their
ticket(s) will be entered for a chance to win a new bike from
Ride-On-Bikes.
- New Bike (Ride-On-Bikes - $500 value)
- Uptown Columbus Merchant Awards

Confirmed advance sign-up by email or phone… contact:

JUDGING CRITERIA:
(Original Songs ONLY)

1. Songwriting (lyrics, melody, hook, originality)
Does the song tell a story and do the lyrics flow well? If people walk away
whistling or humming your song, there's a good chance you have a good melody
happening. Is the song memorable? Ever hear a song you can't get of your
head? That's what we're listening for. Is your song a knock-off or remix of
a popular song? If so, don't play it. We're listening for something unique
and fresh.

2. Vocal Performance
It is often said that in addition to the lyrics, the general public
evaluates a song by the performer's vocal ability and delivery. Take this to
heart – if you fall a little short as a singer, solicit a top-shelf vocalist
to showcase your lyric.

3. Instrumental Ability
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Stellar musical
accompaniment is critical to properly underpin your song and vocalist. Take
this to heart – if you fall a little short as a player, solicit top-shelf
musicians to underscore your vocalist and memorialize your melody. Because
"playing ability" is a judging criterion, all music must be played live. CD
Accompaniment Tracks are not allowed.

4. Stage Presence
Singing, playing and delivery - all three count. The category rates how
"sellable" the performer(s) may be. Songwriters are encouraged to solicit
the best singers, players to perform their songs with a flare.

5. Audience Response
Being accepted by the audience is an important litmus for any song. Bring
your friends, family, and fans – they'll get a vote and win stuff too.

The "Vocal Performance", "Instrumental Ability", "Stage Presence" and
"Audience Response" categories (s 2-5) each count as 10 points, with 10
being the best score. The "Songwriting" category counts as 10 points, with
10 being the best score -- then the "Songwriting" category is doubled (x2)
for a total of 20 points. A perfect score is 60. The top two performers with
the highest cumulative score from all judges are the weekly finalists.
Weekly winners and finalists will advance to the Rivertown Showdown
quarterly final. At the judges' and venue's sole discretion, penalty points
may apply for an over-time performance, late-arrival and/or set change-over
delays.
