They're all getting old.
I saw Arlo and family here in October, in some ways it was a
disappointment since there wasn't much of him, with everyone on the
stage. Yet, it seemed like he was content to sit back a bit, be the
old man of folk, or whatever. (The show was good, and having various
women on stage did a lot for harmonies, and it was certainly different
from the last time I saw him, when it was Arlo, backed by a band, just
with so many people on stage, there was less time for Arlo.)
Then I realized that when I saw Pete Seeger for the first time in 1978,
he was 59. I was younger, but I also think the beard made him seem "old".
Arlo is now 62, three years older than Pete was when I first saw him. I'm
about the age Arlo was the last time he came to town, in 1996.
Of course, having turned fifty the week before Arlo came to town, I
figured that caused Arlo to come to town, 62 no longer looks that old,
I'm practically his age.
Michael
