There is a new promo for a people-in-the-news type show on
one of the local stations. It intercuts MLK and JFK, using their
most famous speeches. (This *HAS* to be on purpose):

MLK: "The only thing we have to fear is..."
JFK: "...what your country can do for you."

I ain't making this up, folks!

Perhaps... but you aren't attributing the quote correctly either.

"The only thing we have to fear is - fear itself" wasn't MLK, it was FDR.
At least you had the number of initials right. <<grin>>

You're right. Wrong attribution because everything surrounding that
sound bite was MLK and JFK, and I'd never read the whole "I have a
dream" speech before, so I just assumed MLK quoted FDR. Mea culpa.

Damn, I haven't heard that one in so many years, I've forgotten the
tune! Wasn't it sung by the Mothers of Invention?

"Initials" from _Hair_. I remember seeing the play in Chicago during
my misspent youth at a performance that benefited the Young
Democrats or such. The best part of the play was the two old ladies
sitting one row in front right before the intermission. :)

Saw it there, too, while Nixon was prez. Actually, a pre-premiere
premiere. Update the lyrics to read "RMN took the IRT...What did he
see? LBJ on LSD"...

I've been zipping through the back posts since my newsserver had so
many months worth when I subscribed to this group before GaFilk at
Jerrie Adkins suggestion, and you can tell I've been rereading David
Weber's Honerverse books the last week or so. I read that as "Royal
Manticoran Navy". Arg.
