New filk: Filker Connection

Some notes:
1. I'd like to thank Joe Kesselman, who, back in 2009, wrote:
<Kermit>"Why are there so many song about singing..."</Kermit>
2. Back then, I sent out a partial based on Joe's line. I incorporate
much of that here.
3. To help my own read of the scansion, I highlighted the first beat
of each line. Like the original, I took liberties with the basic
meter.

WHY are there so many songs about singing,
And SINGers, musicians, and bards?
ARE we conceited to just write about something
That SO many folk disregard?
ARE we just happy to do what comes natch'ly?
Or IS this just our repartee?
WE just can't help it. We keep making music,
Composers and singers and me.
WHY do we do it and could somebody stop us?
I THINK just as soon stop the Moon.
SOMEbody somewhere said to write what's familiar,
THESE subjects are opportune.
THIS is our world and we'd like you to share it.
We're DOing what we love, you see.
WE just can't help it. We keep making music,
Composers and singers and me.
Are we just playing around?
Or are we at times touched by muses?
WHY are you listening? And why are we singing?
Some SAY that by singing, we pray.
SONGS about lyricists and other musicians,
Could THEY be about you someday?
ARE these about what it is to be human?
Though I know that some disagree,
WE just can't help it. We keep making music,
Composers and singers and me.
All we can do is go on,
