Psalms of the French Reformation
Ensemble Claude Goudimel
Naxos 8.553025.
Does anybody have information on the content of this disk or
the performers? Is this CD worth buying?

I have also seen this recording, and bought it out of historical interest.
However, I'm afraid I would not recommend this cd from a performance point of
view.
The cd contains a selection of psalms from the Huguenote psalter (in French
therefore), for 5 voices a capella. The voices of the Ensemble C.G. do not
always blend together the way they should, and have individual intonation
problems (that's in my humble opinion of course).
The repertoire is fairly unknown though, and I don't know of other recordings.
Hope this helps,

I must agree. I bought this out of interest. The voices are not
an asset to this recording. The French is not idiomatic, I found.
It is interesting from the point of view of the music itself.
I recall only one other recording, a 1970's Das Alte Werke by
Ensemble Polyphonique de Paris. A few choices were by
Goudimel, I seem to recall . I've never seen this record since
I came across it at McGill's Music Library. That was almost 20
years ago.

I mentionned in another post that I didn't recommend that CD either
(but it doesn't seem to arrive on the net). Concerning the
program, there is another CD made by l'Ensemble Cl. Janequin +
la Psalette de Lorraine for Adda (if memory serves) which is more
recent, and very good, but might be difficult to found.
