I wonder if someone could help me? I vaguely remember that there is
some sort of reference book which is a thematic catalog of the works
of J.S. Bach.
I will continue to look on my own, but if you know of this book, could
you point me in that direction?

This thematic catalogue is called the Bach Werke Verzeichnis.
It exists in a complete (euro 173) edition and an abridged one (euro
39).
