The usual way of designating pieces such as these is to reference the
manuscript source and folio number(s). For example, British Library
Add. 29987, folio 62r is the first of four saltarelli in this famous
late-14th century Italian manuscript (sometimes informally abbreviated
as "Lo"). Occasionally you will see these four saltarelli simply
numbered, though this too requires that the manuscript source be
identified.
