So did anyone else get the Isis Issue 139 and a half today? It had a
fair amount of info about the Bootleg Series Volume 8...Derek and
Tracy Barker wrote that there are actually 6 different versions to be
released (including an itunes version that will have the same material
as on the 2 CD set but will also contain a song that is not available
on ANY other version), and it is stated that one of those versions
will be a 3 CD set with 2 books but no additional vinyl, but the price
is unknown at this time...and it may not be any cheaper because the
addition of the vinyl is considered to be a promotional give away
from bobdylan.com. I agree wholeheartedly with everyone who said it
would be more than ridiculous to pay for the deluxe set, and hopefully
that third disc will find its way to us in some format, someday...but
I will hate knowing it is out there but not yet accessible to me! Do
you think they had to ask Bob's opinion before they did this crazy
marketing scheme, or could he possibly be unaware of it all?

All Bob Dylan cares about is singing and masturbating on his bus. He
has no idea what's going on. He doesn't even watch the news.

A friend of mine more familiar with marketing techniques than I am
believes the idea is to sell more 2 CD sets than would have sold
otherwise. Even people who had no intention of buying any of this
bootleg material will look at the crazy price of the deluxe set and
feel they're getting a bargain with the 2 CD set. And they'll feel
part of a "happening". Whatever the gimmick, it's making me want to
sit this one out altogether. I think Bob is well aware of what's going
on. Not much gets by him where money is concerned.

That's because he's Jewish.

OK, hit me.

I'm expecting to get a one star, for "poor, I do not recommend this
post."

And here's another possibility (from a Robertson Davies interview):

"If you're a writer, a real writer, you're a descendant of those
[Welsh] medieval storytellers who used to go into the square of a town
and spread a little mat on the ground and sit on it and beat on a bowl
and say, 'If you give a copper coin I will tell you a golden tale.'
If the storyteller had what it took, he collected a little group and
told them a golden tale until it got to the most exciting point and
then he passed the bowl again. That was the way he made his living,
and if he failed to hold his audience, he was through and had to take
up some other line of work."

I'm in Malibu at the moment, and got the chance to ask Bob about it
last week before he left for the Electric Factory. He said the reason
behind the overpriced box set is an attempt to highlight the
ridiculous extents to which his hardcore fans will go to satisfy their
obsessive urges. True story!

Next time you see Bob Dylan, don't forget to suck his dick for me!

(lol, sorry, couldn't resist)

OK, I am now off for my morning walk, just as soon as I put on my bra
and training shoes. Training shoes. haha, that sounds funny. And I
learned how to tie the laces all by myself.

They're Asics. I had never heard of them before, but the store clerks
said they are better than Nike. They are filled with gel cushioning
for my plantar fasciitis. They look cool.

***

I'm back from my walk. This didn't go through. I met a very pleasant
young man from Costa Rica, who wants to be in fashion. He was jogging
behind me, but when he reached me, he stopped and started walking with
me and talking to me. He turned around with me on Faifax, and walked
me all the way back home.

When my Mom was here last time, I said, when I get back into shape,
let's go to Costa Rica and see the rainforests.

Ouch, my feet hurt. I got toothaches in my feet.

Now back to Bob's statement...For a split (very split) second I almost
believed your "true story" and had a flash of excitement on your
behalf that you were able to talk to him! (hey, it is early and I got
almost no sleep last night)...The depressing thing is, if money were

OMG! That got posted in the wrong place (my fault)!!!!!!!! That was a
response to Martin's story!!!!!!! (following)

I have been sitting here trying to post this forever, and it's driving
me crazy. Why don't I just walk away and try later? I don't know. I'm
obsessed. I'm going insane. If this doesn't post soon, I am going to
blow my top.

I didn't blow my top. I worked out. take #amillion

Wow. RMD has been down all day for me. I can post in another group,
but not here. Even as I type this, it still isn't going through.

Well, eventually it will work. Maybe tomorrow...

It's working, SORT OF.

I won't go into all the boring details.

Well, let's just put it this way. I couldn't add on to post number 7
in this thread. (mine)

but everything/everywhere else is working fine. (i think) (if this
goes through)

I am indeed in Malibu, on Point Dume to be precise, about 2mins drive
from Bob's house. It IS annoying that I'll miss his shows, but every
single time we've come to California it hasn't coincided with Bob
shows, so I'm used to it. We already went to San Francisco though,
and sorry I didn't contact you but we were only there for 2 nights and
me and the wife spent them in Vesuvio's making use of our travelling
babysitter. It was v.hectic and we only just had time to do some
sightseeing

So, you're really in Malibu, 2 minutes drive from Bob's "house," but
you don't really know him, you didn't meet him, he's not your friend,
nobody knows Bob Dylan.

Bob Dylan is a figment of our imagination.

He has permeated the collective unconsious. We are all sharing in the
same massive hallucination.

Bob Dylan is a delusion.

I know - it's still cool to drive past his place on the way to the
beach though. By the way, Zooma Sushi is the best, man

Here's what Michael Gray has to say:

TELL TALE SIGNS PT 3: MONEY DOESN'T TALK...

I have to say I agree with much of the flurry of comment I've been
sent in e-mails over the past couple of weeks, about the rip-off
nature of the multi-packaging of Tell Tale Signs, and the 3-CD set in
particular. As of a few days ago Sony in the UK couldn't say what
prices they were going to be charging, but it does look as if,
effectively, as in the States, we're going to be charged £55, or $110,
for one CD (plus an almost insultingly redundant booklet of photos of
singles covers). Here's what others have had to say, starting with my
old friend Homer:

"$129.99 is an interesting price for a Dylan item consisting mainly of
digital music given his recent remarks that such things are worthless
and it was right they were available for free because that is their
actual value.

I never thought I'd say this about Dylan product (that hated word now
seems fitting) but the third disc and the itunes and Starbucks to be
and the late additional itunes and the second 7" vinyl and whatever
else they have lined up - the CD-single with bonus DVD track etc etc -
are all official Dylan product I am going to ask a friend to copy for
me. Unless I fall in the face of temptation; which would fit my track
record on such matters and presumably is what they are counting on.

Wouldn't it be lovely instead to be buying something like the J.K.
Rowling deluxe package just announced where again one spends a fortune
on an item surrounded by all kind of gimmicky add-ons - but where the
money goes to charity so you can indulge your own obsession and yet
give to a worth cause at the same time."
