I'm told that Starbucks Coffee in the USA will shortly be releasing (presumably under licence from Columbia) an exclusive CD of Bob Dylan's concert at the Gaslight Club, New York City, in Oct 1962 (the "Gaslight 2" tape). Three performances from this 17 song show have already been released officially:
No More Auction Block was released on "The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3" in 1991
Handsome Molly was released on the exclusive Sony Music Japan live compilation CD "Bob Dylan Live 1961-2000: Thirty-Nine Years Of Great Concert Performances" in 2001
The Cuckoo was released on a promo CD with purchases of Bob Dylan's book "Chronicles Volume One" in 2004.
This CD will be available in Starbucks Coffee shops and possibly from their web-site.

That's surprising news, coming hot on the heels of another Dylan-related Starbucks release :
Starbucks Hear Music will release two JONI MITCHELL-themed CDs on February 16th. Joni Mitchell: Artist's Choice is a collection of songs that influenced the singer-songwriter, while Joni Mitchell: Selected Songs are Mitchell's best recordings as selected by artists including BOB DYLAN and ELVIS COSTELLO . . . http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6983750/beck?pageid=rs.Ne...
What next? McDonalds to release the entire Fox Warfield residency? Coffee Republic releasing Tramps '99 ? Jesus ... How about Harken Bahrain Oil Co to release the Genuine Bootleg Series???

Starbucks have included Dylan tracks on two other of their Artist's Choice albums. The Sheryl Crow album includes Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, and the Johnny Cash album includes The Times They Are A-Changin'.

You're just pissed that Starbucks is releasing an old Dylan concert and not one his 2004 ones where his true greatness shines best.

=================================================== What's the source of this information? Or is this a joke? I'm not automatically assuming that it is, because someone at the Starbucks corp. has good taste in music, from what I see in their CD racks.
But this almost seems a bit too far out, too specialized, and too good to be true. On the other hand, with the Scorsese documentary apparently coming out this summer, maybe it's not so far-fetched to see the Gaslight tapes released by Starbucks.
In addition, Dave Ronk's "Song to Woody" can be found on 1999's "A Story To Tell: Starbucks Presents Powerful Songs from the Coffeehouse," which also contained tracks by such notables as Fred Neil, Joan Baez, and Tom Paxton.

Or your own compilation "Sinkology (25 Songs containing "Sink" in their title).
In an unprecedented shift for music production, marketing and distribution, Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX) has helped take Genius Loves Company, the final recording from music legend and 12-time GRAMMY(R) Award-winner Ray Charles, to the number two spot on the Billboard Top 200 charts for the first week of sales(1) in the United States. The landmark CD was a collaboration between Starbucks Hear Music(TM) and Concord Records, Inc.
Starbucks reports that its Company-operated locations in North America sold more than 44,000 CDs, which is approximately 22 percent of total album sales. The numbers generated by the Company significantly outpace those achieved by other individual record retailers, both traditional and mass-merchants -- making Starbucks the number one seller during the CD's first week of sales.
This chart debut for Genius Loves Company supports the proposition that the Starbucks Experience and the Company's broad customer base provide a compelling and powerful new distribution channel. To date, Genius Loves Company has shipped more than one million copies worldwide to Starbucks and other leading retailers...

Hopefully, Starbucks won't burn Bob's Gaslight recordings like they consistantly do with their java. msj

will it contain an early version of 'one more cup of coffee'

Victoria's Secret to release a Dylan compilation featuring an otherwise unavailable remix - nah, too farfetched! :-))

Well, wasn't the Gaslight "one of those coffee-houses on the block"?

Starbucks had a CD out at Christmas with kids songs on it which included "Froggy Went A-Courtin'". The shop where I was had sold out, but was playing it when I was there. The clerk said she loved it. She didn't know it was from an album. The CD was also on their web page in December.

i wonder if this may be a hoax, but it is a pretty good idea. the gaslight was a 'coffee shop,' right?
clever
also, it's a tape hanging around the vaults. with a new record promised later this year, it's less likely a bootleg series will appear. maybe with the live 64 and with the scorsce project, there's little interest in doing another high profile folk release, but with chronicles, there may be some interest so why not do an alternative marketing route. then maybe next year, we can get a good 1980 gospel concert!
