Bob's "Gotta Serve Somebody" was covered last Sunday at a large church
in Duluth, GA a few miles from the location that Bob will play on
September 22nd. The worship topic was on service and the music
leader, Larry Parker, chose this song to accompany the message.
The church normally uploads its weekly sermons but this week chose to
also upload a recording of their cover of GSS.
Go to http://www.sugarloaf.org/messages.da
and scroll up (if necessary) to find "Gotta Serve Somebody" by Larry
Parker on
08/26/07 if you'd like to give it a listen.
As predicted by many, Bob is working his way into the hymnal.
Georgia Sam
That was real cool. Thanks. This is one of the reasons I like watching
Christian television. It's always entertaining, even though sometimes
I find it offensive (like this preacher asking WHY did G-D have to
make WOMEN SOOOOOOOOOO STUPID??????????? (not my caps and emotion)
(answer, so men would feel like they had something to give them) or
another time, just scary, like about something was going to happen in
the future, worse than the Holocaust, kinda scary.)
Well, anyway, thanks. Real cool!
Waaalll, Georgia Sam, that's absolutely wonderful. It's the kind of
thing i live for, so i don't wonder why i'm alive.
Ya'll take care,
dudley
I'm glad that you liked it - Mrs. Georgia Sam is playing on keyboards
which made it very, well, special. She's wondered, rightfully so for
a non-convert, why I feel the need to hear Bob live whenever he's in
our locale.
After many moons, she's decided that whatever it is it is and has even
attended a show or so with me. It was a wonderful thing to see her
playing because she really enjoyed the song - was "head-boppin'" and
smilin' while she was playing.
It was good!
Best to you; Georgia Sam

"Gotta Serve Somebody" by Larry Parker
That was beautiful, Georgia Sam!
The holding of that one "seeeeeeerve" was glorious!
Your bigotry is duly noted.

I'm quite serious here. This is your second notice. Please respond
else i will take further action.

Hello Mr. Dudley,
A person whose judgment I respect (Babs) posted in another thread that I
had misinterpreted your comment here, and suggested I revisit things with
you, so here I am.
I will be frank with you that your comment did upset me, and here's why.
Your adoption of an affected southern accent --- quite diferent than your
normal posts--- and the exagerrated statements in the post, led me to read
it as pure sarcasm, that you had attempted to portray a stereotypical
southern redneck type, in response to "Georgia Sam" posting an uplifting
message about the use of a Dylan song in church. So it read (to me, anyway)
like a bigoted put-down of Georgia Sam, southerners, and church-going folks
in general.
Now I am an open-minded fellow, and if I've misinterpreted your intention
here, please do post what you really meant. If I have mis-read you and
screwed up on this, I'd be pleased to know. I found Georgia Sam's post
heart-warming and inspiring, and if turns out you felt the same way, well,
nothing would please me more. In that case I would eat crow with pleasure!
You are the boss of your own post, let's hear in plain English what you
meant to convey.

Dear Mr. Straub,
I don't know if i'll be able to use "hide quoted text" here, but no
matter.
How ya'll are? I hope this finds you & yours well.
Thanks for taking the time to respond; you must have had to do some
digging to get back to this thread, and i appreciate it. I especially
appreciate that you've approached it in a manner that allows us both
to maintain our dignity, and to reach a common resolution.
While i also respect Babs, i didn't ask her to rise up in my defence;
i was cooling my heels & seeking counsel. & while my post might've
upset you, the suggestion that i'm somehow bigoted caused me some
consternation. Call me any name you like, there's a couple i'll deny,
rightly.
So i'm glad we can work it out.
I certainly understand your misunderstanding; i certainly don't always
communicate well (not always plain English), and thought that was the
problem. I appreciate your standing up, if the poster had indeed been
the kind of feller you mistook me for.
What i said was:
}
Waaalll, Georgia Sam, that's absolutely wonderful. It's the kind of
thing i live for, so i don't wonder why i'm alive.
{
and that's exactly what i meant, word for word, plain like Amish.
Absolutely wonderful (stunning also comes to mind), and i do prefer
nonCommercial music to the stuff produced by the Music Bizness, and
this recording (IMHO) rises above most of the commercial offering we
hear today. To the extent that i've saved the file to my hard drive
(not so easy considering it's in Flash format) so that in my
retirement years i can hear it again, and again be moved.
As to my existential condition, that's too lengthy a post for these
1/4s.
As to my use of "ya'll", it is an affectation of sorts, but one i
frequently use as a nAmerican; i've advance google searched this site
& found it in my usage several times within the past few months: "How
ya'll are? May i call ya'll?" (14-jul); "Ya'll keep doin' what yer
doin'." 29-aug; etc.
I hope this clarifys matters. If not please respond, email if y'd
like.
If so, glad we could clear things. I have only one other thnig to say
to ya:
Go Phillies.
HERE 'TIS on sendspace:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/tipmll
& thanks again. Ya'll.
Yo soy un hombre sincero,
dudley
'Tis as good a time as any for me to take the opportunity to introduce
myself to Mr Dylan, ( a pre-tend of sorts ) , wherever and whoever he
might be, and wish him and his faithful companions a sincere Zei
Gesundt and prosper, this while our former years are busy yielding to
the new.
To allow what is to come is a joy we reach for. The song is healthy,
the rhythm is human ... and beyond too. I see dignity arising and find
no reasons that would prevent me from traveling to Tennessee,
Georgia and Alabama this winter. Anyone here knows the conditions of
the churches, mosques and synagogues in those southern neighborhoods?
Any info. would be much appreciated since I'd love to meet and teach a
mixture of poetry and mystical psychology, along with some reflections
on things as they are or appear to be.
Dignity became clearly present in your American dialogue and I thank
you for sharing publicly, it is a gift, and God bless America.
I should say good bye now or I'll end up making a real fool of myself
and reveal that I am but another side of Mr. Jinx. So Ya'all take care
now and I'll go on ringin' and walkin'
~ one more tif in rmd on Labor Day, september 3rd, 2007, elul.
Long may they run!
---- Kurt Straub
P.S. Babs, thanks for calling this to my attention.

I wasn't asking for an apology (i'll accept it as a matter of form),
only a clarification. & i'm glad we've come to this agreement, so we
can turn attention back to the quality of that performance, which is
what it was about.
Nor is there a need for you to eat crow, but in the event you ever
have call to, i've supped on that bird many times, & have a few
recipes i cd share (buffalo crow wings, amongst 'em).
In any event, Shake on it.
I still say the Mets have to beat Atlanta; the Phillies are capable of
beating themselves.
And thanks Babs for acting as an intermediary. The governments of the
world could learn from yr tact & grace.
Take care, y'hear?
dudley
I wanted to say "Thanks, y'all" for the way you received this and for
the responses. Larry Parker is receiving requests from the church
congregation for downloads to be made available (which he has never
had at this level!).
If they do make it available for download, I will post the link here.
President Dudley and Kurt - you both seem to be fine representatives
of the rmd I first began reading ~15 years ago.
Take care; Georgia Sam
