Hmm, but why would it be such a big deal? The whole issue with the
"gospel" phase was the preachiness and self-righteousness of the
approach. As Martin says, in a pluralist world religion's ok as long
as you keep it to yourself :)

do what his religion tells him to do - spread the gospel to all people.

Thank God his religion doesn't tell him to give away all his money and
possessions, and devote his life to the poor.
His religion is selling "Universal Hell Insurance." If you don't buy
the insurance you go to hell. In the meantime the insurance salesman
collects his fat commission.
