Godfather is a decent ruthless book... Well worth reading...
TV shows I didn't really 'get' when I was a kid (couldn't get through
a whole episode) were M*A*S*H (spin-off from the movie, I know),
Barney Miller, Taxi, Alice, Jeffersons, All In The Family, Family,
Kung Fu, WKRP, Grizzly Adams, Odd Couple, Little House on the Prairie,
CPO Sharkey, Mary Hartman, Soap, Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Newhart...
Maybe because they all dealt with 'stranded' settings (same sets) and
had a drab aura to them...
But I was aged 1-10 when those shows were first on, so maybe I'd
probably appreciate them more now as an adult...

This bill is better than no bill at all. Obviously a single payer
system is preferable
to leaving it in the hands of the insurance companies, which is part
of the problem
now with their restrictions on pre-exist. condit. etc.
I've heard all the excuses the far right wing have tossed out, all
the misinformation,
scaring seniors that their health care benefits will be cut ( a myth),
and screaming "socialism,
Marxism, communism".
Basic health care should not be a luxury here in the US
It took 20 long years.for what became Medicare just to be passed
after Pres.
Truman first proposed it in 1948. It was finally passed by LBJ in 1965
or '66.,
despite the same epithets being tossed by the far right in congress.
Is Medicare perfect? Of course not w/all the additions that have been
tacked
on over the last 30 yrs. But w/o our elder care program most of the
seniors
would have been unable to afford basic care.
I don't know you, "Treadleson", but just be careful who you accuse
of making "flip posts" I have been involved in the healthcare
delivery syst. over 35 yrs. as a provider.

The Cruise's didn't have the chemistry they had in Far and Away. Tom
was likely immersed in his space religion by then. At least we all

No one asked me, but that's never stopped me before.
I can tolerate either way of hanging the toilet paper roll...however,
my preference is rolled under, as you can snap off the paper with one
hand...try doing that with the over hand method, and there's a pile of
unsnapped off paper on the floor.

The paper's embossion and/or printing is a clear indicator of the
manufacturer's intention of installation direction, as these favor the
outside of the roll.
If you have children it is probably better to install your toilet
paper so that it dispenses over the top to the back, as this prevents
them from batting at the roll and creating a pile of toilet paper
underneath it.
Placing the TP properly "over the top towards the front", prevents the
TP from contacting the wall / cabinet which often has condensation
from showers, sinks, etc. TP contacting the walls will absorb moisture
and end up making a mess.
Or simply use a corncob.

I can think of no topic more germane to our discussion group than the
issue of "Toilet Paper: How Properly Is It Hung?".
Let me say this about that.
Some number of years ago, this same dilemma was addressed in one of
the popular advice columns, either "Dear Abby" (Pauline Phillips) or
"Ask Ann Landers" (Eppie Friedman). IIRC, each of the columnists was
still living at the time, & so the one of them weighed in.
Initial searches on Giggle Search yields conflicting information,
which on the innernest is unusual.
You can try it at home... search for "Dear Abby toilet paper" & "Ann
Landers toilet paper".
What i tend to believe is that a) the columnist initially sided with
the "under", that is feeding from the back of the roll, and b) the
responses were so great (one site suggests 15,000) that a moratorium
(a suspension of activity) was placed on the subject.
My memory is as always, and increasingly moreso, faulty, but here's my
recollection of the endgame:
One reader, who signed himself "Don Henley" (swear to god, if any),
stated that it should come "over", that is hang from the front,
because on brands that have little flowers or other designs printed on
them (remember the George Bush toilet paper? the dollar bill toilet
paper? the Nude Descending a Staircase toilet paper?), that's the way
the printed design displays properly. Same applies to embossed
figures.
Another reader stated that in a house with cats, it's necessary to
hang the paper "under", that is hang from the back, else the cat will
claw on the roll & effectively unroll it to the floor.
I've seen that happen.
I've also rolled it back up.
In either event, those responses to the whichever columnist were
accepted as each correct.
Case closed.

I thought they were great at the time, mainly cos they were AMBITIOUS.
It was the end of indie bands making a virtue out of being "non-
commercial". I've tried playing the first album again recently, after
about 18 years, and it doesn't really hold up. Too self-conscious and
art college-y. That said, their example, in raising what had been some
VERY low expectations, deserves some accolades.
