Dr. Demento (aka Barrett E Hansen, Lakewood, California) at one time was
the progenitor of the forgotten funny tunes but over the years the waxing
and the waning of corporate radio has magnified the effect of greed.
Hence, the politics of regimented programming has made the Dr. Demento
show a victim of the times. Dr. Demento's had a unique distribution and
even distribution method up until the mid nineties, till the creation of
Talonian Productions not much is known about the syndicator ironically
the Dr Demento show is its only show. I don't think the good doc has much
of choice of his shackles and submissive role with Talonian.

Talonian Productions is using vile tactics to prevent its radio feed to
be either silenced or plugged with the stations stock music, over the
past couple of years, fans of the Dr. Demento show have taken great
strides and time to track where they could listen to the show on the
internet. Over the past ten year’s radio streaming has created a
controversy because it was once argued that radio stations licensing fees
were not valid for internet feeds.
However, this proves not to be the case, in many circumstances. Doctor
Demento is perceptive enough to gain more control over his by creating a
website specifically dedicated to streaming his beloved show. Although
the price is very cheap $2.00 per show segment, perhaps providing Hansen
a good little nest egg over time that $2.00 adds up folks, the way the
economy is, us consumers are slowly being strangled to death with fees.
Many of the docs faithful and loyal fans are happy with this method of
distribution but there is a caveat. Talonian requires its radio
syndicators to either silence (bullish tactics) or play generic music is
marred by faulty methodology that is counterproductive and ineffective
although Demento turns a blind eye.
1.) Since, they Dr Demento does not want to be heard over the air then
these radio stations need put up a disclaimer on their internet feeds.
In addition, it is misleading to the internet listening audience, when
the show is only available to the specific radio market. Remember
internet streaming feed are covered by their standard music licensing
fees.
2.) The Dr. Demento show should not be listed in the radio stations
website that is radio stations should strike the Dr Demento show from
their scheduled listings because Talonian requires the silencing or
deletion of the feed. Why give Talonian the free advertising on the said
radio stations websites, right. Show that carry the show can listen in
their respective markets but are denied access via the stations internet
feed. Where's the logic in that?
3.) Well what is the use of fighting the system?
For the percentage of you fans that subscribe to the Dr Demento Society -
keep this in mind - where do you listen to the show? Have you ever
given a list of stations to listen to the good old doc? Remember Talonian
blocks the radio feeds, is this fair to you the listener or the radio
station who interest is to keep the audience entertained. You society
members have more power that you think; only you can make the appeal.
4.) If Dr Demento is hurting for money than say so, why pay $2.00 for a
show when you can pay for a good NNTP service and get the shows for
free, search this group for how.
5.) I wonder why XM gave the show the ax? What a shame.
Since the early seventies, the good old Doc has over the year provided
fun, strange, odd and deeeeemented music for the niche fan but over the
past ten years (about 1995), the good old Doc has gone to the dogs. Those
of you that carry on the demented music legacy should be applauded
(Morris thanks for your fabulous, valuable archive list and hard work,
Tanny thanks for your tenacity Tanny, funny music, and the rest you
(Krellan) know who you are! Give yourselves a pat on the back for keep
in a proverbial sense the "spirit alive." So, those of you who are luck
to have the show in your market congratulations. Keep listening and
remember to stay deeemented follow on to five.
6.) And finally to the good doc an appeal.
We love the demented music and we thank you for your spirit at one time
you promoted the genre of demented music. What happened to your soul?
You started on a radio stations that promoted the spirit of free form
radio, but over time do you realize your alienating your audience? We
appeal for you to get another syndicator, one who is more liberal than
the unscrupulous tactics of your current syndicator, don't you realize
you are alienating your audience. We love to have you back in the spirit
of free form internet radio. (May 2006)

Long time musician? I guess eight years is considered a long time by some
standards. I got some 100 funny musicians linked from the myspace page above,
and such a network is already helping other comedy and demented artists prosper
and get heard, especially the notable ones that Dr. D never thought people would
enjoy hearing. With myspace, who needs to spend $2 on Dr. Demento Show downloads?
