For the first time in many years, we're getting more than a few day's
notice of Barry's annual pilgrimmage to his alma mater, Reed College,
here in Portland OR.

Here's the information from drdemento.com:

ATTENTION PACIFIC NORTHWEST DEMENTITES...

Dr. Demento will be presenting several programs in person in January
at his alma mater, Reed College in Portland, OR.

Wednesday, January 23: CAN YOU STOP A WAR WITH MUSIC? Protest songs in
the 20th and 21st centuries.

Thursday, January 24: CENSORSHIP: How it affects the music you hear
(and don't hear) on radio and in other media. How government and
corporate interests restrict the musical choices of radio programmers
(and why a little censorship is not always a bad thing).

Friday, January 25: COMEDY MUSIC IN THE 21st CENTURY - We will survey
the latest trends in funny music, and use our computer to hear and
watch together the current under-the-radar hits on MySpace, YouTube,
etc. (Advance suggestions welcomed - use the "Request A Song" feature
on www.drdemento.com and mention that your suggestion is for the Reed
College program)

Saturday, January 26: FESTIVAL OF DEMENTIA - Dr. D's famous program of
hits from the show on audio and video -- "Fish Heads," "Bambi Meets
Godzilla" and the best of Weird Al, Spike Jones, and lots more Heroes
of Dementia.

All programs are open to the public, and will be held at Vollum
Lecture Hall on the Reed College campus. Use the main entrance off
Woodstock Blvd. The lecture hall is straight ahead; the road to the
parking lot splits off to the right just after entering the campus.

Admission is $5 for each program.

Of course, the big question here would be to what extent if any
protest music helped end the war in Vietnam.

Although, the German Socialist Party who had been singing the words of
The Internationale "We'll shoot the generals on our own side." went
along with the Kaiser's call to arms in 1914.
