Neither of these two events is at all funny by itself, but placed side-by-side
like this, well, I can't stop giggling....r

Clarabell (no trailing "e") was a _clown_ not a cow. Five actors (maybe
more) played Clarabell. They switched in and out from one week to the
next. An actor would get a better job for a few months, then come back
and play Clarabell again. Clarabell didn't speak and wore whiteface, so
it's hard to tell one Clarabell from another. The last Clarabell was Bob
Keeshan, who then started playing Captain Kangaroo. Keeshan may also have
been the first Clarabell (he certainly played the role within the first
few months).
I always found the legend of how Clarabell said "Goodbye kids" a charming
story, until I saw the kinescope. They overhammed that scene by a mile
and half. If you want to know the definition of "subtle", watch that
scene. Subtle is the opposite.

Maybe he died soon after, but I'm sure the mechanic did not die in the
crash. Dean did not have a will, so his money went to his father, who had
abandoned the family when Dean was a baby. Also, Dean may not have been
speeding. http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000015/bio says
The famous Failure Analysis Associates, from Menlo Park, California,
re-constructed and re-created all details of the accident at the same
approximate time on September 30th, and have concluded that James Dean was
travelling 55 to 56 m.p.h. when the fateful accident occured, thereby
proving he had not been speeding, as rumor had it.
>Murphy's Law of the Day...
>"Everything takes longer than you think. - Murphy's Second Corollary"
Everything takes longer than you _expect_.
(If Murphy's Law can be misquoted, it will.)
