In 1951, "Thank you and may God bless." "The Red Skelton Show" TV
Variety show debuted on NBC-TV (almost 10 years to the day after Red
made his radio debut). America's 'Clown Prince of Comedy' was a hit
for years on radio and an even bigger one on TV with characters like
The Mean Wittle Kid ("I dood it!"), Clem Kadiddlehopper, Sheriff
Deadeye, Cauliflower McPugg, Willie Lump-Lump, San Fernando Red,
Bolivar Shagnasty and Freddie the Freeloader. Later, he would move to
CBS-TV. Overall, "The Red Skelton Show" remained a fixture on U.S.
television for 20 years.
In 1955, "Topper", TV Comedy; last aired on CBS.
In 1959, "The Charley Weaver Show", TV Variety; debut on ABC.
In 1960, "The Howdy Doody Show", TV Childrens; last aired on NBC,
syndicated 1976 briefly. On this last show, Clarabelle the cow
finally talks and said: "Goodbye Kids".
In 1960, in The Flintstones episode titled "THE FLINTSTONE FLYER",
Barney builds "The Barney Copter," which Fred renames "The Flintstone
Flyer," and which the boys use to go bowling instead of to the opera
with their wives.
In 1960, the first animated series in prime time, "The Flintstones"
debut on ABC-TV with their unique stone-age capers. Yabba Dabba Doo!

In 1933, The Mickey Mouse film, "The Steeple-Chase" is released.
In 1955, brooding actor James Dean, who lived the life of James Stark
(his character in "Rebel Without a Cause"), makes an appropriately
rebellious exit in the collision when his Porsche 550 Spider ran into
another car, head-on at 75 miles an hour near Cholame, Calif. Dean,
who had starred in the movies "East of Eden," "Rebel Without a Cause"
and "Giant," was 24. Dean's mechanic also died in the crash. Today,
a scarred, stainless steel memorial marks the scene of the accident.
The once-gleaming tribute was designed, paid for and erected by a
Japanese fan. James Dean souvenirs are for sale at the Jack Ranch
Cafe, a few feet from the crash scene.

Does anybody besides me remember a short-lived sitcom called
"Princesses", starring Fran, Twiggy and Julie Haggerty as
roommates?...it went on "hiatus" so Haggerty could take some time to
