Paul Revere & the Raiders were great, but Loudermilk's version of
Indian Reservation is better (IMO :-)

("The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian")
Written by John D. Loudermilk

They took the whole Cherokee nation
Put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
Tomahawk and the bow and knife

Took away our native tongue
Taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan

Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud you lived, so proud to died

They took the whole Indian nation
Put us on this reservation
Big built houses by the score
Won't need tee-pees any more

They put our papoose in a crib
And took the buckskin from our rib
The old tee-pee we all love so
They're using now for just a show

Cherokee People, Cherokee tribe
So proud you lived, So proud you died

Although they've changed our ways of old
They'll never change our hearts and souls
Although I wear a man's shirt and tie
I'm still a red man deep inside

Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die

And someday when the world has learned
Cherokee Indian will return

Loudermilk also sang and wrote "Bad News", a mild hit for Johnny
Cash in the 60's Blue

I'm actually pretty surprised because there's very little of
Loudermilk's stuff that I'd EVER want to hear a second time. Actually
I think most of it SUCKS ! : )

I think he came into prominence with the Folkie movement, and
apparently they were desperate for heroes . : )

Hell with the hootenannies! "Angela Jones", top o' my head stuff,

Sorry, I tend to doubt it. : )

I can't place it off the top of my head, so that IMMEDIATELY means
it's less than GREAT. : )

Secondly, if I can't place it off the top of my head, that means
there's a pretty good chance it didn't make my "The 25,000 Greatest
Country & Western Songs Of All-Time" list, which means it's less than
VERY GOOD . : )

As I said "Bad News" although a bit of a novelty song, was a pretty
good song by Johnny Cash, BUT ... even better by Noel Haggard ! : )
I'm surprised to see that Mr. Loudermilk wrote it. I only remember Mr.
Loudermilk for one decent country song and if I remember correctly he
wrote "Break My Mind" . Again, not GREAT, but pretty good and covered
by a lot of folks.

Let me know how my memory is. At my age, it'.s probably a good idea to
check once in a while ! : )

If I'm right, then you'll get an idea why I'm your
"KING" !!!!!!!!!!! :) LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!
