I'm working on flluency with my Band-in-a-Box but that is a ways off.
The lyric has been somewhat vetted on Irene Jackson's Songwriters page.
Strong support, no negatives, but not that many critiques. One word a
(mild?) problem that can be fixed if needed. (Crushed)
You would remain captain of your music, and I of the lyric and song. 50-50
rights split.
Please give it and me a shot!
I'm Clayton O. Delaney
(and I wish that I were dead!)
My wife was at the bank I robbed,
I shot her through the head.
I'm Clayton O. Delaney and I wish that I were dead!
Christmas Eve was coming soon,
She went to get a loan.
I entered with my gun in hand.
I thought that she was home.
When banker Walker shot at me
My own shot crushed her head!
I'm Clayton O. Delaney and I wish that I were dead!
I know that she forgives me, she says so every night.
Her ghost comes to my bedroom, a dear and dreadful sight!
She says my anguish pains her and keeps her from her rest,
Such dear and dreadful words, like rats upon my chest!
I'm Clayton O. Delaney and I wish that I were dead!
No one knows that I'm the one,
The law's left me alone.
I pick in south Ohio bars,
A backroom is my home.
Oh, every night she's in the crowd,
Her hair and blood so red!
And every night she screams at me. She tells me that she's dead!
(Work in progress, obviously. Part of the Death and Daddies series.)

OK. I took seriously the multiple requests on the other board for
someone to have a go at the music side, as the A.E. Poe aspects
appealed to me, I threw together a quick musical sketch for it. At this
stage (13 June 2006), Alley Man to the best of my knowledge hasn't heard
it, he said through having problems getting on to soundclick, and in the
end didn't want an mp3 sent so he could hear it.
Now, I don't mind if people loathe what I've done to their lyrics in
order to set them, I don't mind if they can't stand the music when it
appears; tastes differ. But I do wonder when there are multiple appeals
for a collab, though on the board they were made, the following was NOT
stated...

...implication being that it would be a normal collab: music in control
of one, lyrics in the other. There was no suggestion in the inivtations
that Alley Man would have control of the song as a whole.
So...to establish that the musical sketch is indeed mine, and published,
you can hear it on http://www.soundclick.com/flyingtadpole as "Sketch
for Clayton O Delaney's deathwish".
As it was a sketch, and a rough tryout of a new stage piano, it's not my
usual standard; production is poor, fumbles are plentiful and
especially, it uses a cheapie boring mechanical backing track. So shoot
me. Differences from the above lyric scheme: The first four lines and
second half of choruses run on the rhythm of:
"I'm Tadpole in a tizzie
I'm Tadpole in a tizzie
I'm Tadpole in a tizzie
And I feel like I've been led."

I see that you are pissed, but it can't be at anything in the line you
quote. I said 'you' would remain in control of your music, so what on earth
is the problem?. The wording 'lyric and song' was virtually accidental, but
obviously if my lyric is XXXX then 'you' publishing a song entitled XXXX
would be stealing of a sort, although duplicate titles are no problem in a
copyright sense, as far as I know. But doing so after what has happened?
Who knows what the legal answer would be. (Innyhoo, you should remove any
reference to "Clayton O. Delaney" from your music site, if you haven't
already, please.)
Are you thinking that somehow a previous/earlier post on a newsgroup
establishes me as owner of your music, or is some diabolical attempt to do
so? Although I haven't heard it, I assume it is pretty good for SOME song,
so if there is any such magic in what I posted on the newsgroups, then
Shazam! and abracadabra! the magic is nullified herewith!
If not, what is the problem beyond you
A. posting changes to my lyric on a critique-only sub-board, not as a
critique but as a new lyric, while admitting you weren't supposed to.
B. not communicating with me beforehand about a collab.
and C?
C. imagining somehow that you would be in control of the overall song, when
it is based on my lyric, which came before your music? (That can't be the
problem, can it?)
As to not listening to your music, the reason is obvious, although I wasn't
thinking about that while at first trying to get on soundclick to hear it.
Although I did not suspect you of trying to steal 50% of the lyric rights**
with your admittedly unmotivated lyric change (beyond something like 'that
is what occurred to me and I liked it'), I continued to tell you I didn't
like what you did, that it damaged the lyric, and why, and tried to
cooperate with you in finding a solution that didn't screw up the song
(which reader, has had improvments in the lyric due to critiques, not his
atttempts that would make him 50% owner of the lyric).
** as has been gently suggested to me by posters from the board.
When after several attempts to find a solution, I could see no indication
that you would write to the correct lyric, of course I did/do not want to
hear your music. I want no confusion about whether music I or a
collaborator come up with is due to your efforts. (BTW, soundclick has still
not sent me the confirmation letter.)(BTW-2, as I said on the board, I am
working on transcribing music I hear into Band-in-a-Box; did I say that
here?)
I still do not feel that you were trying to steal. And if you had suggested
changes that half as much improved the lyric as yours degraded it, I might,
perhaps, have been delighted. Indeed, even with the screwed up lyric I was
delighted that you were giving it a go. I see no reason that I MUST come to
conclusion you were trying to wrest 50% of the lyric rights from me, and I
enjoyed your repartee and the links you gave to the source of your name,

Sorry, Tad, but that is drugs/insanity/alcohol/something. Beyond the fact
that you could just as easily refer to the soundtrack by any name in the
universe, you quoted me above as saying the music is 'yours'.
And it became posted on the board and agreed to that you had control of your
music.
Beyond idiocy and a sanity or drug problem, I really cannot imagine what you
think you are doing. Is the suggestion made to me, that you are trying to
'steal', correct?
BTW, it is E. A. Poe, not A. E. Poe.
A point here. You wrote music and changed my lyric without discussion with
and partly in violation of the rules and protocol of the board. Just why do
you think YOU should take precedence over someone who not only communicated
with me first, and before you jumped in, but didn't screwup the lyric?

Not just the same rhythm but the exact same form, completely dumping (a) the
fact 'she' is the wife and (b) the explict setting of the bank as the site,
and (c) not answering the question: why in uck does someone want to hear
"I'm Clayton O. Delaney" three times in a row as not just the first three
lines of the song (wow! what drama!) but have the four lines repeated later
in the song?
You being 'down under' I suspect you finally fell off and hit your head on
the moon or something.
As to the crossposting, I was not a subscriber in any account for all but
one of the newsgroups, and could have no idea which would be most likely to
find a right person. And your idea that individually posting to each of a
number of ngs is not actual crossposting is not 'with' it, just a cosmetic
kowtow to powers with no brains, at most.
