Subject: o-t banjo on HBO's Deadwood
If anyone here happens to be a Deadwood fan, I gotta brag a wee bit...
they're using a tune from my clawhammer banjo CD Put On the Skillet
over the closing credits of this Sunday's episode.  (my guess is a
woman will die in Deadwood this Sunday; the tune they chose was Pretty
Polly.)

How cool is that?! The music they have is not "period" and this will get in
there closer. I keep waiting for them to have the Banjo Dick Brown incident
in there. He was sitting on the Gem's stage giving a banjo performance when
a jealous lover of his girlfriend stormed in and threw an axe at Banjo Dick.
It missed and Banjo Dick whipped out his pistol and shot the rascal dead. He
was acquitted because it was justifiable homicide. There is a lot of
historically accurate stuff in the show. let's hope Banjo Dick makes it in
there.

Oh, that's gotta make it into the show!  I wonder... fiddler Kevin
Wimmer was playing a show near here with the Red Stick Ramblers a few
weeks ago at our local restored opera house.  At an o-t session last
night, the promoter told me that the day of the show Kevin had gotten a
call from the Deadwood folks and spent time frantically finding an
airline ticket to get to Burbank to, apparently, play on an episode.
Wonder if they're going to recreate that incident, but with a fiddler
along with a banjo player??
