Subject: Years in TN for Andrew & Jim Baxter ("Moore Girl" etc.)
Judging from where and when their children were born per a 1900 census
taker, Andy Baxter and his wife Nancy moved from Georgia to Tennessee
some time between 1892 and 1894; son James was born in January 1898 in
Tennessee; Andy worked as a gravedigger in Hamilton County, Tennessee
and could not read or write; his vast majority of neighbors including
next-door neighbors were "white." By 1910 the family had moved to
Calhoun, Georgia, where Jim continued to live with his parents and
continued to have almost all "white" neighbors into 1920 and 1930. Jim
married his wife Ruby about 1921. Neither Andrew nor Jim was listed as
a military veteran as of 1930.
