Hi all. I'm looking for inspiration to write a French song cycle. Any
ideas for sources of insipiration, like things to listen to?

Thanks

Sounds to me like you've already got the "inspiration" to do it. Musically,
I'd recommend listening to art songs of Poulenc and Duparc as a start. You
could also investigate the few songs Ravel wrote, and possibly Faure if your
tastes swing that way.

How fluent are you in the French language? If not at all, pay particular
attention to how the texts are treated rhythmically. Same as in any
language, go with the natural accents of the words, and have someone who's
fluent in French speak the texts for you.

Thanks Dan. I speak French quite well though, so I should be ok.

The great names of the chanson française:

Georges Brassens
Barabara
Edith Piaf
Jacques Brel

Ravel...
Solage...

I'm quite partial to Janequin, myself, actually.
