WKCR, 89.9 FM in New York City (Columbia University radio) will again in 2009 be broadcasting its yearly holiday-season Bach Festival. The music starts at 9:30am on Monday, December 21, and runs 24 hours a day, ending at 6:00pm Tuesday, December 31. This is a non-commercial station, so there are no obnoxious interruptions. Beginner -- looking for suggestions

Been listening to Haydn and Mozart for starters and really enjoy both of these composers. (Very much). Looking for suggestions on other composers/works that mimic this sound, which I consider very soothing but musically interesting. Do not care for "aggressive" classical music -- Beethoven, Schumann are a couple recent listens that turn me off.... more »

Best VPO Beethoven cycle?

OK, that's a lame subject if there ever was one, but I m transferring my Bohm cycle from LP right now (which a Google search in RMC shows I bought in 1994 for $4.50!), and find I still very much like the sound quality DG captured, especially the clear timps. It isn't Bohm on fire, however, so you know what to expect. He never completely drops... more »
