I agree that it is in the public domain (Brahms dies more than 70 years
ago, the edition is more than 25 year old. The only part where there is
some iffy ground is that it was published in 1926 and that Hans Gal
died in 1987. Though I'm fairly sure that dover would not illegally
publish this for as long as they have.) and that this edition is
probably clearer than the original. I'd still like to find a copy of
the simrock scores. (If for no other reason than to compare and to see
the state of music publishing in that era.)
