America, the Beautiful. After all, Katherine Bates did climb a great
height and gazed down when she came up with the words.

"One day some of the other teachers and I decided to go on a trip to
14,000-foot Pike's Peak. We hired a prairie wagon. Near the top we had
to leave the wagon and go the rest of the way on mules. I was very
tired. But when I saw the view, I felt great joy. All the wonder of
America seemed displayed there, with the sea-like expanse."

We did that song in school, but I never knew the story or all the
verses. It's a beautiful poem.

Kathy Bates, the Academy Awardā„¢-winning actress, is related to Katherine
Bates, the college dean and poet?

So white Americans of that generation never referred to
negros as niggers or coons, never made them sit at the
back of the bus and didn't practice segregation. Next
you'll be denying the Holocaust.

Non sequitur; you were making claims about anti-semitism. Do try to
stick to one subject at a time, Cohen.

Illogical, given that "Most American caucasians" were not involved in
the Holocaust, which took place in Germany. Your history is deficient.
And it still has nothing to do with the question asked, which involves
music that makes one feel like gazing down after a great height has been
climbed, Cohen.

The hawk is probably just hungry, not having any lofty feelings. But I
can imagine the final chorale of Bruckner's 5th symphony as an
accompaniment to the mental image of a hawk soaring high (or rather a
re-born Phoenix bird rising out of flames).

That's right. I made no response. Its clear you're very observant.
So, were you expecting a response? I would have thought from your
attitude and condescending remarks that you wouldn't welcome one.
Or you would find some way to dismiss it. See below.

Because there is no substantiation to which you can point, Cohen.

And it's clear that you are not very observant, because you don't
see why it's valid to note that your claim is unsubstantiated, Cohen.

> So, were you expecting a response?

I was expecting an admission that your claim is unsubstantiated,
Cohen.

> I would have thought from your

You're erroneously presupposing that I made any condescending remarks,
Cohen. That's rather ironic, coming from someone who has completely
strayed from the topic and brought up anti-semitism.

> Or you would find some way to dismiss it. See below.

Classic spin-doctoring. I call it finding some way to NOT stray from
the topic, which happens to be music that makes you feel like you
climbed a great height and gazed down, Cohen. Check the subject line.

>>>>>>> Most American caucasians of that generation

> The same attitude and condecension again.

Classic unsubstantiated and erroneous claim.

> And why should I stick to one subject at a time?

Why shouldn't you? Apparently because you have nothing valid to
contribute to that subject. After all, you have yet to say anything
about music that makes you feel like you climbed a great height and
gazed down.

> Can't you handle more than one?

Obviously you can't count either, Cohen, otherwise you would have
noticed multiple responses from me in multiple threads with different
subjects, which clearly indicates that I can handle more than one at
a time, but I can stick to the subject in each thread.

> (note the pun on Handl!)

I mean that your question does not logically follow in a discussion
about music that makes you feel like you climbed a great height and
gazed down, Cohen.

> Why are you trying to avoid the question
> by hiding behind silly remarks like that.

How ironic, coming from someone who has consistently avoided the question
about music that makes you feel like you climbed a great height and gazed
down, choosing instead to hide behind silly remarks about "Most American
caucasians" being involved in the Holocaust.

Jacob Handl, also known as Jacobus Gallus. Slovenian composer,
1550-1591. He wrote a lot of church music - we've done some of his
motets, which are great fun. Handel's Funeral Anthem is based on one of

Who is "Davie-boy", Ross? Still suffering from attribution problems?

What do you mean, Nightingale? I wasn't avoiding anything. I just felt
that Tholen didn't really expect a response. What with their arrogant
attitude and all. I also notice that this Tholen person avoids
answering
too. So we would only end up going around in circles.
