Dear music lovers,
Can anyone tell me if Earl Wild is still alive?
Thanks

He is still alive, and in fact still performing.

His 85th Birthday recital at Carnegie Hall two
months ago was one of the highlights of the season.
One of the Liszt pieces he performed was on
Barenboim's program the night before, and Wild
outplayed him no contest. A great evening.

There is an interview with Wild in the last issue of Fanfare. He has
interesting things to say about Isaac Stern. ;-)

I don't understand why these birthday celebrations aren't recorded and
issued on Ivory Classics.

This is part of the Liszt series, right?
Do you know who else is playing that day?
When I got tickets, I don't remember Wild
being on the list (Tryon, Hamelin, etc were).

It is part of that series related to Alan Walker's
Liszt biography.

Why have I heard nothing of this????

(What does it have to do with the Walker, which I just read?)

Of course I couldn't possibly afford to go -- when the Arnold Schoenberg
Choir was there last year, tickets started at $40; instead of "Friede
auf Erden" at that price, I went to "three organ concertos played by
four organists" instead, for $20. (One of them was the forgettable
premere of a concerto for organ four hands with orchestra, and the
composer didn't even seem to be there, but the others were Poulenc and
Casella [the latter completely new to me], and I just found a cut-out CD
of exactly that pairing -- and it's a wonderfully Germanic, unidiomatic
performance of the Poulenc that's even more interesting than the usual!

Walker will be reading and 'illuminating' the presentation.

> Of course I couldn't possibly afford to go --

It was only $60 for all three. (And I may not be able
to go to the first.)
