at Tower records in downtown Fukuoka where I paid 3000 yen (about $29.50 at today's exchange rate). Not bad for 4 CDs with symphonies 1, 5, 6, 8 plus Leonore 3, Coriolan, Fidelio, Egmont, Consecration of the House overtures and a recorded interview with Markevitch, which I had not heard before.... more »

For the first time in more than 13 years, WRTI-FM (90.3) will
broadcast the Philadelphia orchestra live on Friday afternoon.
Nezet-Seguin leads the orchestra in works by Schumann, Janacek and

Installed Windows Live Mail in Windows 8. Subscribed to RMCR. Only have 295 messages, none from today. Can find a way to download more messages. Also when I sort on date, the messages are not sorted correctly. Same problem as in Thunderbird. Weird.

Tennstedt live Mahler recordings from master tapes

As far as I can see these are the only Mahler recordings on CD that are from master tapes, rather than from someone's recording of a radio broadcast: -
EMI Symphonies 5, 6 and 7 all included in the lastest version of the complete Tennstedt cycle from EMI.

The NYT obit gives lots of space to the Symphony for Classical Orchestra recorded by Bernstein in 1953 and Previn in 1986. I recall his sonatas for piano were well-regarded in academic piano land.

Fascinating interview. Gottfried Wagner, the rebellious great-
grandson, said in his 1977 autobiography that 27 rolls of private home
movies of Hitler and the Wagner family are still under lock and key.
Have they ever been released?
