For the symphonies they have:

1 - Royal Scottish National Orchestra / Tintner (Naxos)
2 - Vienna Symphony Orchestra / Giulini (Testament)
3 - Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra / Norrington (Hänssler)
4 - Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra / Jansons (RCO Live)
5 - Philharmonia Orchestra / Zander (Telarc)
6 - Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra / Norrington (Hänssler)
7 - Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra / Karajan (DG)
8 - London Philharmonic Orchestra / Tennstedt (LPO Live)
9 - Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra / Harnoncourt (RCA)

Which, if nothing else, has a good variety of labels.

Can anybody comment on the Norrington recordings? Or the Zander one?
Those in particular seem like novel choices ...

Skipping two great modern Bruckner conductors: Wand and Blomstedt.

Why this is marked as abuse? It has been marked as abuse.
Report not abuse
Zander?? Not familiar with it, but Jochum's live 1986 Fifth with the Concertgebouw is the best I've heard. Issued on Tahra in 1997, then reissued on same label in 2008, both OOP now.

Yes! If I was forced to own just one recording, that would probably be
the one.

I'd have expected Gramophone to recommend Sinopoli/Dresden or
Wand/Berlin ...

I haven't heard some of these, but Tintner's is a pretty good set.

I would agree with "pretty good", but that places it rather low on the
totem pole. Can you say anything more enthusiastic than that?

Since no one here seems to feel the Gramophone list is accurate ,
Runnicles might be the one in the 7th ! And you got the tip first,
from me !
I'm looking for your contribution to this thread, but......

Actually Runnicles seems to be building a rep, at least in the
UK, as a fine Bruckner conductor. I wouldn't know myself. He
was going to do the 7th here a couple of years ago, but begged
off with a back problem at the last moment, the program was
changed, and YNS asked that the work not be programmed until
he got to do it as MD. (He's leading it in January, FWIW.)
