As I expected, some remarkable playing at age 23, esp. live. I do not
have a score, or the Hamelin recording of the Alkan Grand Sonate "
Les quatre ages" , but do have the Ronald Smith recording. Eckardstein
certainly gives a wonderful reading here , esp. live. Not to be
missed.

Thanks, will listen asap. Usually a fascinating , original pianist.
Age 34 now. Mystery to me he seems to have a smallish geographic area
for his appearances, but perhaps I'm not up to date on his career or
he prefers not to travel, although fellow Dutchman van Zweden
persuaded him to come to Dallas this year. Some interesting cd's
including Hummel arrangements of Mozart picos 24 and 25 for
piano,flute,cello,violin :

Actually, von Eckardstein is German, not Dutch. I heard his Prokofiev
3 with van Zweden in Dallas and it was terrific - not bangy, exciting
but very clean, with beautiful tone and great musicality.

Thanks for the report.Again, not surprised at a great
performance. You'll like him at age 23, too.
Sorry ; missed the "von" vs. "van". Either country would be proud to
claim him , and he does seem to play a lot in Holland, too.

I believe it may be one of Grieg's "Lyric Pieces", perhaps the
"Aria" ?

Yes, you're right, it is Grieg from Lyric Pieces: Melody op.47 no.3.
