on L'Oiseau-Lyre. The soloists are fine, but Emma Kirkby as Soprono 2 is
exceptionally good! It's a shame that she only gets to sing 3 numbers
thoroughout the whole oratorio.
I also find that the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral (the boy sopranos
especially) produces such a pure sound - what a delight. I like the fact
that boy sopranos can deliver a full-bodied sound without being
harsh/forced.
I immediately placed an order of a 2-CD set containing Vivaldi Gloria
RV589, and Nulla in mundo pax sincera in E, RV 630, with Kirkby and CCCC!
Can't wait for it to arrive..........

I'm glad to see someone mention ChCh - the choir I was in as a kid
(there's a picture of me at 12 in the Rattle War Requiem booklet!). I
remember a good Bach Magnificat as well as that Messiah, and some good
Haydn mass recordings. However, my view is probably very rose-tinted.
I myself am too young to be on those (of course!) - I am only on the
Bach Motets, two mixed discs on ASV and the War Requiem. Perhaps I
should put them in my discography? ;-)
I've heard good things about the recent Nimbus recordings - anyone heard
them?

You will like this recording. I have it on LP and it's one of
my favorites. You may even like it better than what you hear in
the Messiah recording. Let us know.
