My latest update includes a pioneering chamber music set - a very late
acoustic set (from the first few months of 1925) of the Virtuoso String
Quartet playing César Franck's String Quartet in D - the work's first
recording.

I've also uploaded the last acoustic orchestral version of Schubert's
Rosamunde Overture - an abridged account on two 10" Beltona sides, played by
the "Sutherland Orchestra". This was initially released on ACO, credited to
the "Grosvenor Orchestra", but this is also a nom de disque.

I've also uploaded an extra on MediaFire - there's been some discussion
recently about Oda Slobodskaya, so I've transferred her delightful account
of Peter and the Wolf, with the Colonne Orchestra under Isaie Disenhaus.
This is from a 1964 mono Fidelio LP (ATL4102). The reverse side has Night on
the Bare Mountain, and Capriccio Espagnole, both credited to Felix Heiss and
the Danzig Philharmonic Orchestra. These are probably pseudonyms, not
unexpectedly from a Barrington-Coupe record label. I've included the two
recordings in question (sound quality is poor, though) and perhaps someone
can identify the actual performers. But it's Slobodskaya's wonderful
narration of the Prokofiev that's the real treat. The record is worn and
tatty, and not in great sound to begin with, so I've done my best to remove
thumps and bumps, while keeping the record listenable.

Damian -

Many thanks for offering these (and other) chamber music items.
Between you and Bryan, I have gained an appreciation of the importance
of these early recordings, their history and biographical information
on the musicians involved...recordings that otherwise would have
passed under my radar. Great work and great documentation.

Hey Bill, you might be interested in this website by the indefatigable
Frank Forman, devoted to acoustic chamber music sets:

Much of my information comes from this site. His discography brought
home to me the importance of these recordings when I first saw it in
the ARSC journal some years ago.

Best wishes,
Bryan Bishop
