Just listened to her Haydn sonata disk, available from Berkshire. I
was bowled over. I can't seem to find any other of her recordings
listed anywhere. Is there anything else that I might be able to get?
Thanks.

Quite a few on Melodiya vinyl...
IIRC the complete Haydn (alas I have never had all of them)

In recent years, she has been recording for the small French label
"Voice of Lyrics". This label has a CD with music of Germaine
Taillefere (many world premieres), and also her second recording of
the Chopin Etudes. Both are worth hearing, and listed as available on
fnac.com. The Chopin I find notable for its technical finish and
immaculate detail, but especially because it features more
whispering than shouting.

Robert.

Thanks. I see that she calls herself Luba now. With that change,
google finds quite a bit.

Also worth hearing, very much so, on the same label: piano music of
Mel Bonis (1858-1937).
Bonis is almost completely forgotten, but her music is a most
melodious and interesting chapter of French impressionism.

Another brother-in-Bonis here. I fell in love with her delicate
spirituality -- a "feminine Franck" I call her -- after having had the
opportunity to perform her flute sonata.

Wow! You also play flute? I'm so
impressed. I hope you're not just
trying to catch up with Naida Cole!

She's been mentioned a few times here by some admirers of her Haydn sonatas and Chopin etudes. And not only by admirers, as Tom Deacon didn't like her etudes. She has a sense of timing which will not appeal to everyone. Anyway I've uploaded two of her earliest recordings -- a Schumann Carnaval, and a LP she recorded, when just 20, of Weber, Schumann, Liszt, Shchedrin and Albeniz

She studied with Yakov Zak, and most of her career has been in Russia and Japan

She's difficult to listen to, although I don't exactly know why. Even her Feux Follets don't sparkle. It's as if she is playing "against the grain". Listen for example to her version of (the opening) of El Puerto.

why should you be so surprised? many athletes are proficient in more that one sport, so why should not musicians be able to play more than one instrument on
a high level?

Many thanks, Tony, don't know any of those. There are two sets of the Chopin etudes, a Melodiya plus the one on above-mentioned Voice of Lyrics. The last time I looked (a number of years now), she was teaching at a conservatory in France, where the VOL label is based.

There's also a concert recording of her playing Chopin op 28 in Japan in 1996. I can put it on symphonyshare if anyone wants it.

I uploaded it to YT already, with a (I think) '98 recital of Prokofiev, Chopin, Rachmaninoff that I think shows off both the negative and positive sides of her playing.
