It's Wendy Melvoin of Wendy and Lisa. They wrote the song that made
Prince famous, Purple Rain. Can't believe that Kiss song is more than
20 years old already. I don't think is he's TAFKAP anymore he goes by
Prince again.

I never could remember which one was Wendy and which was Lisa. They had
a pretty good cassette tape - they sounded like... Prince.

I like Ringo Shiina, she's a Japan pop singer that somehow became an
artist who is compelled to write songs that defy any easy
classifications. Like Kate Bush, her music is uniquely hers. Jimmy Page
would probably think she plays her guitars way too low. :-) It looks
like her guitars are Duesenburgs and Rickenbacker. She may be using the
guitars to hide her rather asymmetrical frame.

I watched the video, but she never played a guitar.....just held them.
What's that all about?

I find that video rather disturbing. It has a pornographic, comfort
women vibe to it. And not in a good way.

This is a good question. The video is a recap of the characters from her
previous videos - a farewell to them as she made the odd career choice
of moving from a solo artist to being part of a band called Tokyo Jihen.
The guitars are used as costume. She does, however, play a pretty good
rock style rhythm guitar. Mostly Duesenburgs it seems.

At the end of the video, she takes off the guitar in a novel fashion -
it seems that females never take off what they wear in a logical way. :-)

Porn, eh? What are you - 15? :-) Just kidding - I can understand you
being uncomfortable with the video. I find that some of her stuff is too
out there emotionally, too personal, too painful - the closest artist
that we have to her would be James Blunt. Here's a cute n' adorable vid
of Ringo Shiina that should be free of all porn-vibes and in the proper
comfort zones.
