It's like the pitch perfect yogourt pot rhythm singing scene! Once you learn it, it becomes addictive and then it becomes a piece of cake things to do ... unless there is a pedal for it![;o)

Apparently Django was his biggest inspiration. I've seen Willie 7 times live. Most impressive. Other vids highlight his excellence better than this one.

Since you brought it up, there is something about female guitarists that
does it for me.....

Since this a classical group the first one that jumped into my mind was
Badi Assad, quickly followed by some some non-classical gals:

Rory Block
Bonnie Raitt
Emmylou Harris
Ana Popovic
Cindy Cashdollar,

and a couple of bass players:

Suzie Quatro
Tal Wilkenfield

<g> The way Rory B beats her guitar sends shiver down my spine.

I knew a girl that looked like Badi when I was in high school... I eventually discovered that she had hair growing up her back. That kind of ruined it for me

Nobody plays guitar like Willie but without his marvelous voice and phrasing, he'd just be another great guitar picker in a country of great guitar pickers.

He's not a bad little songwriter either (Crazy, Nightlife, Funny How Time Slips Away, etc.).

When it comes to Semitic goddesses, you have to take the good with the bad.

Thanks for bring that up. Those are great tunes! It was quite a shock to
learn that Willie Nelson wrote "Night Life." I thought Don Ho wrote it!

I should have said if you take away his guitar playing, singing,
songwriting, beard, and hat, you'd have one goofy looking dude.

That's what happens when you post using a cell phone and the new mobile
Google Groups interface. There's no quoting and you have to leave out a
lot.

Dolly Parton and Sonny Bono are two other very successful songwriters
that some folks might be unaware of.

Willie's wikipedia page is a hoot:

Nelson lives in Maui, Hawaii, in a largely self-sustaining community where all the homes use only solar power. Neighbors include Kris Kristofferson, Woody Harrelson, and Owen Wilson.

His first marriage was to Martha Matthews. The marriage was marked by violence, with Matthews assaulting Nelson several times including one incident when she sewed him up in a bed sheet and then beat him with a broomstick.

Nelson's next marriage was to Shirley Collie in 1963. The couple divorced in 1971, after Collie found a bill from the maternity ward of a Houston hospital charged to Nelson and Connie Koepke for the birth of Paula Carlene Nelson.

While swimming in Hawaii in 1981, Nelson's lung collapsed. Nelson temporarily stopped smoking cigarettes each time his lungs became congested, and resumed when the congestion ended. After suffering of pneumonia a repeated number of times, he decided he had to quit either marijuana or tobacco. Nelson decided to quit tobacco

It sure is a hoot. They're probably digging the mellow scene on Maui.
I'm digging that they're on Maui and not in my town.

Every Tom, Dick, and Matthews, think they can be an Al Capone. She made
the common amateur mistake of using a broomstick instead of a baseball
bat. Good thing Willie married a Matthews instead of a Moscone.

Wille's probably pretty good at juggling things but I guess even the
best will drop a ball every once in a while.

What people should know about this place is that it's dangerous here.
People are drowning in record numbers, they're falling off cliffs,
they're getting overcome by blasts of steam and sulfuric acid from the
volcano. My guess is that a lot of old farts just drop dead from too
much weed. At least they're happy though.

How drunk must he have been not to wake up while she was sewing him into the bedsheet? I just love the mental image of how that scene must have gone down.

The version I read said he was sleeping in a sleeping bag, and all she
gotta do was zipping him up and beat him senselessly. I don't remember
where I read it. I must be making this up!!!

My theory is that drunk people sleep soundly and that sewing them in a
bedsheet without waking them is a piece of cake. Lightly tapping them
with a broomstick at irregular intervals might be ok too. Dumping a
small amount of Southern Comfort on the bedsheet and lighting it when
they're sewed in it would probably get their attention. That's my theory
anyway. It's a good idea to have someone standby with a fire
extinguisher, lest the stunt go horribly wrong - YMMV.
