Take the slurs out except for the trills. They sound lame,
even when Segovia did them.

I know that sort of slur *was not done* in the day, and
I know the reason. It's lame, especially on a

I had the Chiesotti modern tabs from the original MS. The pieces that were arranged for guitar don't resemble at all the original lute pieces, in fact I didn't recognize a single piece from that MS. They are guitar music as far as I'm concerned, and should be played as such.

Going up and down the neck in thirds for instance rarely exists in lute music. The Salterello is hardly recognizable as the piece we hear today.

In baroque lute music you slur every other note and that's a fact!

Thanks Andrew, BTW, I forgot to mention I used Jescar evo gold fret wire. Man! it really improved the playability they are tall frets and have a beautiful gold color to them, I just tried them for the first time one this guitar..... anazing frets! They cost twice as much as regular fret wire.

I think my Navarro Reyes flamenco has these frets or something like
them. It was one of first things I noticed when I bought that guitar.
It makes the guitar incredible easy to play especially barring. The
large frets do change the feel of pull offs (sorry, slurs!) on the
first string especially.

It's not baroque music. It's true that a guitar sounds more like
a baroque lute than a renaissance lute. So what?

In renaissance lute music you don't slur, and that's a fact.
It's a million times better without the slurs. *Try it*.

DaveA, do you really think yer telling me something I don't know? I cut my nails off and played lute with thumb under for 5 years. I got the thumb-under transmission from the man himself Paul Odette.

The six ren lute pieces are guitar arrangements of lute music that hardly resembles the MS. So, I play guitar music on the guitar with guitar technique.

There is no way to play the guitar with thumb under and use nails, so I play guitar with guitar technique. If I were to play the Salterello without slurs it sounds way too staccato, and frankly at the tempo it should be played at you would need a technique like Scot Tenent which I don't posses. Staccato and ren lute music don't go hand in hand. Now run along and bother someone else with your ridiculous remarks.

This guy uses slurs too, in fact I have yet to find an example on
youtube of a guitarist not using slurs.

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't
be done. You don't play it that fast anyway, and
if you can't play it without staccato you need
work. IAC, you are conflating the problems of the
instrument with the problems of the player.

What's on YouTube imitates Segovia, and he didn't play it
worth a ----.

OK find a video of how it should be played and post it. I would like to hear someone play it up to tempo and not use slurs. Btw, DaveA I'm a guitar maker, not a guitar player, I play the guitar very rarely, but when I do play I think it's not horrendous or anything.
