Satchmo didn't write it, he sang it. It was written by Bob Thiele (as
"George Douglas") and George David Weiss. About 10 years ago I got to
play it for George David Weiss when I was doing the Sunday Brunch at
the Palm Court. What a nice man he was, one of my best music
memories.

Smile is also a wonderful world of a tune, perfect on guitar.

In my youth I had a brief affair with the former spouse of someone who co-wrote one of those two tunes (more specific I cannot be on the Interwebs). For a while it did have me smiling about what a wonderful world it was.
