A, do you play any movie music?

I was thinking about putting together a chorale-like version of the "Maximus" Theme from Gladiator!

I think that would work, especially if you set up a cymbal you can
play with a foot pedal and bring a flute player.

But seriously, CW...

I do play various movie themes, the well known ones, Deerhunter, The
Sting, Forbidden Games, Ashokan Farewell (that's TV of course). Etc.

I also play some of the LOTR.

It's a great time for movie music, ain't it? A cable channel is playing
"1941" and that movie is a hoot. John Williams' march, I think, will
become a standard in the future. Them triplets might be a little tricky
on the guitar though.

I like that he's barefoot in the final scene. Wonder if he has furry
toes.....

The /great/ Howard Shore? During whatshername's giving
up immortality for love, (cribbed from Ireland's
story of the muse of story, Cliodhna, the lady who
told Cormac that if he kissed the Blarney stone he
would have the gift of gab) instead of a
sorrowful unforgettable love theme, the best HS could
manage was /one note/ from the "Irish" tin whistle.
Give me a break.

It gets worse. I heard the beginning of a trailer for
the Hobbit movie, and HS used a tin whistle for a
mediocre theme which drifted aimlessly until fading
into ====, like all his themes in Lord of the Rings.
This guy is a demon arranger and orchestrator, but
he is no composer or songwriter. I found his score
in LoTR to be annoying and antimusical,
like most modern movie scores, and
nothing like the work of Tiomkin, Raksin, Herrman,
Elmer Bernstein, et al.,
or their teachers C-Tedesco, Tansman... What in
HS's load of crap could possibly be worth arranging for
guitar? HS seems to be a clone of the other David
Arnold who obliges me to use my middle name.

Whistle me something from "Independence Day". This is
a test.

Fortunately I've never seen "Independence Day" so even though I can't
pass the test I also can't fail it.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. I think his LOTR scores
are brilliant, first and third won the Oscar for Best Score. Etc.,
etc., etc. I love playing In Dreams which I arranged and have looked
at others which I'll eventually do.
