Maderna conducts Stockhausen, Pousseur, Penderecki, & Earle Brown
Some people on this list will undoubtedly remember three RCA Victrola LP’s with Bruno Maderna conducting entitled “The New Music,” volumes 1, 2, & 3. These discs were actually a reissue of a 3-LP Italian set entitled “Panorama della music nuova” ([Italian] RCA MLDS 61005), published in 1964. Sony has just reissued volume 1 in collaboration with Archiv Music. You can purchase it as a print-on-demand CDR from Archiv Music or as an mp3 download from Amazon.... more »

Berio conducts Sinfonia, Nones, Allelujah II, Concerto for 2 Pianos
In collaboration with Archiv Music Sony has just reissued the first recording of Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia, the original 4-movement version, which was recorded by Columbia records on October 12, 1968, immediately after the world première with the same forces. Because RCA and Sony are now part of a single corporate entity, they have been able to include Berio’s RCA recordings of Nones, Allelujah II, and the Concerto for 2 pianos within the same release. Archiv and Sony are claiming that this is the first digital reissue of the RCA recordings. In fact, they were previously reissued on CD in Japan by Japanese RCA/BMG in collaboration with Japanese Tower Records. (Needless to say, the Japanese release is long gone along with Japanese RCA/BMG.) These recordings are available on a print-on-demand CDR from Archiv Music or as mp3 downloads from Amazon (link below):... more »

In collaboration with Archiv Music Sony has just reissued several recordings of music by Elliott Carter. At the same time Bridge Records has just released a new recording of Carter’s Piano Concerto with Charles Rosen and Juilliard Quartet violinist turned conductor Joel Smirnoff. With these two releases, we’re up to five recordings of the Piano Concerto in print.... more »

article- John Cage's common aesthetic thread
Greetings RMCC, I have an article on my webiste that might be of interest to the list members here that I hope you enjoy: JOHN CAGE His Common Aesthetic Thread by Julio Cann <[link]> "In order to begin to understand this genius polymath, one of the most influential figures of 20th century avant-garde, it is perhaps most useful to approach his work not in chronological order, which would only serve to elucidate his penchant for constant reinvention, but instead to delve into it as he did: from all directions simultaneously, and to try to find - or at least experience - the common aesthetic thread running through all of it. Therefore, in Cagean... more »
