On "House of Refuge", multi nominated and Juno Award winner Jim
Byrnes has dug deep into the traditions that have influenced the whole
of his life. Growing up on the north side of St. Louis, Byrnes was
surrounded by the likes of Chuck Berry, Johnny Johnson, and Ike and
Tina Turner. Over the years Jim has appeared with a virtual who's who
of musical history including Furry Lewis, Henry Townsend, Muddy Waters,
John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Taj Mahal, Robert Cray, and Ray
Charles. With House of Refuge, Jim Byrnes has let this life wash over
him and come up with perhaps the most inspired and soulful album of his
already accomplished and storied career.

Jim Byrnes Acoustic Band

A local legend in music and television, blues guitarist/vocalist Jim
Byrnes is one of Vancouver's most respected and beloved entertainers.
With the release of the 2004 CD, Fresh Horses (Black Hen Music), a
fantastic collaboration between Jim and well-known strang-sters Steve
Dawson guitars and Jesse Zubot violin was born. A refreshing and
exciting project, the new ensemble plays tunes by Neil Young and Bob
Dylan plus some down-home country-blues and original instrumentals. A
brand new CD, House Of Refuge (Black Hen), celebrates Byrnes' love of
gospel music. Also with Keith Lowe bass and Elliot Polskydrums. A
double bill with the great Dr. John.

A resident of Vancouver since the mid-70s, Byrnes is a staple of
Vancouver's music scene and has proven that a serious car accident in
1972
would only serve as a catalyst to his artistic success. The musician
and
accomplished actor who once played 300 nights during a calendar year
was
officially honored by the Canadian music industry with a Juno Award in
1995.
