We are so pleased to have WOODY LANE, up from Roseburg, OR, joining
us
to call. Woody is known for his clear, concise teaching and calling,
his intersesting dance programs, and his friendly manner. These
inspire
folks to dance better, with more confidence, and with an enhanced
sense of community. His reputation precedes him to dances and
festivals
the length of the West Coast, and a good part of the rest of the
country as well.
FRESH CIDER wraps you in the comfort af a traditional New England
sound
in its full breadth and glory. From old Yankee hornpipes to late 20th
century
tunes from recent great tunewriters; from Celtic tunes to those from
the
Shetland Islands and England (including some from Thomas Hardy);
leavened
by Northwest old time and even a set in ragtime. Chosen to fit the
flow
of each of Woody's dances and played close to the dancers with rock-
solid
rhythm. Laurel Stone, fiddle; Craig Shaw, flute; Phil Katz (a regular
at the
monthly Tacoma Contradance), melodeons; and Dave Goodmanson, piano. It
is
a pleasure to play for our friends out on the dance floor. Most
recently
we played for the Tacoma New Years Eve dance.
There will be a newcomers' workshop at 7:30 pm. Woody gives a great
workshop. Experienced dancers are invited to bring friends they've
been
wanting to introduce to contra dancing, and to help out by dancing in
the
workshop. Contra dancing is "not rocket science"!
Admission is $8.00; seniors and H.S. students $5.00. It's a fragrance-
free event
The dance is at Christ Church Wells Hall, 310 North K Street, Tacoma,
WA.
